Introduce Yourself! (2026)

The Cure, that’s crazy! I took my youngest brother to a Cure concert in the 90s, when he was in high school. He took me and his daughter to a Cure concert just last year or maybe the year before, here in Houston. They are great!

You know I think I remember reading something about one of the band members passing away, just recently.

Welcome Dan, I’m Liverpool UK. Enjoy your bass journey, you just need patience and practice, plus the Bass Buzz course which is superb!

Hi there, nice to meet you! My best friend playe ukes, and has convinced me that my next bass needs to be a u-bass. I been eyeballing those Kala acoustic-electrics. I just love how thumpy they are, especially with the rubber (silicone?) strings
! Welcome to the forums!

Hi Dan, welcome! I’m also here to learn to play punk! It’s just my favorite iteration of the low end; I want to someday chug til my arms fall off lol. I’m planning to run through the course a second round with a plectrum some time. Nice to meet you!

Hi everyone! I finally signed up for the course last month after finding the Bass Buzz channel on YT. I just started Module 6 today.

I’m 67 and I’m essentially learning bass for the second time. When I was in the Air Force in the 80’s, my friends coerced me into playing bass in a 70’s house band for the NCO club. I had purchased a P-Bass while stationed in Germany a few years earlier and was learning via Mel Bay books. The band lasted a few years until I got transferred - I played very sporadically after that. My heart really wasn’t in it because my younger brother also played bass and he was much better at it than I ever was – really an awesome player.

Fast-forward to retiring from the Air Force…I decided to take up a new instrument – one that my brother didn’t play. So, I chose the banjo (don’t judge me… ). I’ve been playing banjo for many years now and, sadly, I parted with my original P-Bass and all my bass gear a few years ago.

Two things brought me back to the bass. First, my brother passed away last year from cancer. Shortly after that, the bass player for our church also passed away from cancer. Our music director knew I had played bass before and asked if I could take over. I’m hoping the Bass Buzz course will knock the rust off my bass chops so I don’t feel like a complete “noob” when I start playing for the church in a few weeks.

My brother’s son gifted me one of my brother’s basses – a beautiful Kay 5970VB reissue. I also managed to snag a 1983 Japanese Squier P-Bass locally. I’ve got my gear and I’m pretty stoked about getting back into the groove!

If anyone has any suggestions for fast-tracking Gospel/Christian music on the bass, I’m all ears. That being said, my musical taste is fairly eclectic – 70’s classic rock, country, bluegrass, gospel, MoTown – I’d even like to learn a little slap.

Welcome @linz ! Sorry to hear about your brother passing away.

I’m sure the BassBuzz course will be very useful and you will progress fast, since you already have experience playing bass. Josh is an amazing teacher and the course is very well designed. Have fun!

Hi all, after having a nerve problem, which affected my pinky, ring finger and thumb meant I could no longer fret my guitar properly, my friend suggested a bass and promptly lent me one. I have to be realistic and play the root notes with my guitar friends but how can I learn to be a little more musical. My 73 year old brain is struggling.

Hello @linz , nice to meet you! I’m sorry about your brother. It sounds like he was very talented, and it’s pretty cool that you’re able to honor his memory and talent via something he clearly enjoyed a great deal.

I haven’t looked at the post myself, but there is a Gospel/Christian post here that may have some good info and tips:

Hello @Bob_Bird , nice to meet you! :ocean: :ocean:

Boy, I hear that! I have cubital tunnel syndrome in my left elbow that makes my pinky and ring finger on that hand hurt a bunch and tingle/go “numb”. The good news is even my pos pinky can still fret just fine. Or it would, if I had talent :joy:

Welcome to the forum!

Hi @Talva , welcome! Boy, if that’s not a sentence that speaks to me, I don’t know what is!
