Not sure who answered, but thanks for the welcome. that cubital tunnel on your elbow sounds rough. So you’re managing alright? I’m just getting to grips with the basics. Stupidly I thought ‘there’s only 4 strings, how difficult can it be?’ Oh boy! Learning curve, or a sharp corner.

Hi, I’m Levent Efe. I’m joining you from Türkiye. For many years, I’ve been listening to this music, and now I’ve decided to create my own music, so in 2026 I started learning bass guitar. I started the first module yesterday. Although I’m really looking forward to playing with my friends in a studio or at a venue, instead of rushing the process, I’ll try to enjoy it. I am eager to learn from you.

Yeah, my pinky finger gets tingly and starts to hurt after a while if I practice for a long time, but my pinky finger tingles and hurts anyway, so it’s… I don’t think playing the bass makes it any better or worse per se. I have been thinking about getting some compression gloves, just for shits and giggles to see if it helps in general.

Nice! I hear it’s winter there right now. Hope you’re staying nice and warm. Here in the American Midwest it’s snow and ice everywhere. Welcome to the forum, there’s lots of really great folks here! Not me, I’m misanthropic, but most of the others!

Blimey all that snow! And I bet its still warm in Turkey. Here in the south west of England we’ve just had our first rain free day for 58 days! Just figuring out if I can play this beast with two fretting fingers, will just have to keep it tight and not try anything expansive. Will be fun trying!

Hi, I’m Harry. I live in California, 60 this month (retired 4 years ago). I was pretty musical when I was in school, played in Jr high and high school band (clarinet and saxophone), and took some courses in community College (theory, piano, choir). Then not much for the last 40 years, so a lot of that knowledge is gone or buried. I had an acoustic guitar and would play it occasionally but if I took a break my calluses would fall off and I was back to the beginning (pain). A few years ago I got a soprano ukulele and that was more fun. Gradually started playing more, got a tenor uke, and a bass uke which started my bass journey. We have a great music community here in our area, and have played at a few jam sessions (on the tenor uke and bass). I would say I’m an advanced beginner and can play by ear very well and can pick out bass lines pretty easily. It’s great to be back doing music after 40 years. Really hoping to get to a competent level on bass so I can jam better and maybe join a band, there seems to be a bass shortage around here. Oh and I just got a baritone uke which is a lot of fun so far.

Really like the course. Just finished Module 4, yes I sucked at Billie Jean…
