I am 48 live in the Tampa area. The first time I went to college was on a vocal scholarship, I sing bass, wanted to be a music teacher. (So yes as Josh goes over the notes on the neck, I sing the note names on pitch, my wife laughs and rolls her eyes) I always wanted to learn bass, my Dad being a good responsible parent told me no I will not get you a bass you already have 2 guitars you haven’t learned how to play. I have a procedure coming up that will keep me in the house for a bit so I decided now was the time to learn bass, watched some YouTube videos, I like Josh’s style and get the humor so bought the course and having a blast with it, while progressing better than I thought I could.
And now all the other stuff…. I am an avid Harley enthusiast and ride with an organization that works with abused kids to Empower them not to be afraid of the world around them, we go to court with the kids and stand guard around their house 24/7 if need be. I love good cigars, and good whiskey. My Monday - Friday gig is in tech, I spend weekend days managing a Gentlemen’s club that a good friend owns in the Tampa Bay Area (see I don’t do idle time well). Anything else just ask
Brand new member from Switzerland here. I am 43 and am a long time bass player (with some guitar incursion at some point), mostly playing all sort of Mustang Bass for the last 15 years and going Ampless for the last 6. I used to play in many amateur bands but at one point made it to the semi-pro for 3 years with a band called “The Burning Rods” where I had enjoyed the touring life on the 2000 to 6000 seats theatre / festival circle for a while. I feel like that itch was scratched and now play mostly for myself.
I also enjoy riding bike and reading but most importantly going on mountain hike as much as I can.
56 and from the upper Midwest. Pretty much a newb. I haven’t played an instrument since I was a sophomore in high school, and did that poorly.
I remember stealing my brother’s copy of “Alice Cooper’s Greatest Hits” - the 1973 version - when I was 6-7 years old and listening to it for hours. I didn’t even figure out that it was Dennis Dunaway’s bass more than anything that made me love it until I was an adult. Clearly, I didn’t understand most of the lyrics.
Anyway, picked up a short-scale Gretsch floor model and a small amp on a whim over the holidays, and here I am on BuzzBuzz.
I’ve biked through Switzerland 1,000 miles, in the mountainous region and also backpacked the Tour du Mont Blanc route, which goes through Switzerland. You live in a great place to ride.
Disabled/Dysfunctional veteran here. Go by Critter Tried to learn bass about 15 years ago, but had to stop due to family obligations. Now I’m picking it back up as my youngest picks up guitar.
Hello everyone. Stuart from the UK here. Returning to bass playing after 34 years. Somewhat rounder, less hairy and sadly not much more wisdom than last time. This time I decided to get some lessons and having hoovered up a load of Josh’s free videos I thought it only fair to pay the man for his knowledge. Halfway through module 2 and really enjoying it. Happy to hear from fellow bass players around the world
I played the upright bass in elementary/middle school and got a super cheap bass guitar off of craigslist in high school that I took a few lessons on, but I never got anywhere with either instrument. I’ve had that bass guitar with me collecting dust since.
I’ve been watching Josh’s YouTube videos for years to kind of self-teach and finally decided to go through with getting this course that I’ve been eying for years (I’m on module 2 right now). I wanted to start 2026 with something for me after coming out of a rough 2025 and many others before it. I turned 30 a few months ago and this decade is for me! Music has always been a passion of mine, and I look forward to being able to give myself the immense joy and satisfaction of playing my own. Love the energy, the teaching style, and so happy I went through with this!
