I think my Boss OC-5 is pretty awesome. Highly recommended.
I’m still looking forward to getting a chorus so I can hear what @howard has been talking about.

Recommend this one
Two of my favorite things in there; Hooky’s New Order bassline at the start, and then Big Muff into Bass Clone later.
Inexpensive, and with the crossover I think it actually sounds better than the higher end ones like the Julia.
After compression, chorus is my favorite bass effect.
Andy from Reverb demos five bass pedals. I had no idea he could play bass, too. And, damn, he’s good.
Anyway, the one that really caught my ear was the Source Audio C4 Synth. I’d never heard one before, and now I think my life, or at least my pedal board, won’t be complete without one. Oy. The “Fuzzy Synth” preset Andy demos at the 11:45 mark makes me inordinately happy.
I think a few people in here have one (@John_E !?). Also, there is a Nathan Navarro demo that you can find on YT about that pedal as well.
If you like that, the Ultra Wave may also be interesting. Gregor makes a good showing of it on Basstheworld.
Oops, yes, that is actually the one I was thinking of, @LeftyChad ! Sorry…
I tried the UltraWave. It is a cool device but was a bit overwhelmed with all the possibilities.
Can fully recommend the C4 for synth and filter purposes.
I do! Thanks @joergkutter
@LeftyChad it is a completely unecessary but amazingly fun pedal.
I also added a Disaster Area DMC.micro Pro MIDI switch that lets cycle through 128 presets vs. the 6 slots the pedal itself lets you bring up. There are zillions of sounds created in the online community that you can download into those slots. It is essentially a euro rack synthesizer in a pedal.
You literally could spend your entire life making up new sounds (have not done that yet, instead taking the ones others create) if you got into it. I think some folks are wary of it due to how much flexibility there is, but, you really only need to browse the community and download.
I used it on this cover btw…
BTW, you can always find the C4 used for around $200, sometimes less, people buy them and decide they are a lot to sort out I think, but again, you don’t really have to unless you want to.
It’s a huge hassle to use and fiddly with dangly wires patching the sounds together?
The idea of a modular synth in a pedal is kind of a neat idea though, for sure. I am sure it’s a cool pedal.
How much does a blingy red and gold bass suit an Earth Wind and Fire number.?
Nice one John!
I’m starting a GoFundMe for John’s sequined jumpsuit so he can re-do that cover properly!
If we raise enough I will go full Bootsy Collins and join him.
Still waiting on the blingy gold pickups to come…since June!
Every week I call and ask about them, the answer is… in about a week.
I do have a white polyester leisure suit ala Saturday Night Fever, but I think a red and gold jumpsuit would be much more fitting (well, appropriate, ‘fitting’ would be another issue).
warn us when that video comes out
sounds interesting, or brilliant, or both. How does it sound? Can you post some clips?
The Chase Tone Secret Preamp is the preamp section of a 1970s Echoplex EP3 tape delay. Studio musicians (most notably Jimmy Page and Eddie Van Halen) would use it with the delay section turned off because the preamp adds a strange depth and 3D quality to the sound.
I bought the pedal after seeing a rig rundown where GE Smith (Hall & Oates, SNL, Roger Waters, and certified tone monster) said that it was the only pedal he has that is always on.
I had it on my guitar board, and the tone is just “bigger” and airier. I thought I would give it a try on my bass board. It’s noisy if you don’t have an isolated power supply.
Once I get my office rearranged I’ll try and get some sound clips uploaded.
When I saw this on your board, I looked it up. I’m interested to hear what it sounds like on bass.
