My First Pedalboard!

Ya I couldn’t find one person using it for bass so you must do a demo for the world @LeftyChad

Cool, thanks for the info, and can’t wait to hear some clips if you get a chance.

I still haven’t recorded tones with the Secret Preamp. I’m chasing down a ground loop somewhere, but in the meantime, this is fun :star_struck:

Well then… The first iteration of my new money pit has just arrived.

I still have a wah, a fuzz, and a couple of distortions on my wish list, but I might skip the fuzz, because the Big Muff already sounds absolutely ridiculous. And I haven’t made up my mind on a preamp yet, but I’m probably going to skip that as well, and just continue using the Rumble.

Good choice on the deluxe muff. That’s a great pedal.

I’d recommend their Bass Clone chorus to go with it. Check this out at the timecode:

Fuzz into modulation - soooooo good.

Stupid question - do I need to unplug the pedalboard when not in use, or are they properly off when they are set to bypass? (All three are true bypass.)

Bypass state usually has nothing to do with if a pedal is on or not. The power switch is the input plug. As long as something in plugged in it will draw power.

The best bet is to put your power supply on a switch and turn the switch off.

A Muff is basically a Fuzz. The first Big Muff was created as a Fuzz that wouldn’t be as finicky on the input signal it gets. It might sound a little less “fuzzy” than a Tonebender, but it also isn’t that picky on where in the signal chain it sits.

For the power draw, I do exactly what @howard suggests: I have my pedal board on a socket with a switch and turn it off when not in use.

What are the patch cables you are using? They have a really small footprint!

I have Alexa do that along with the amp. She’s my studio assistant :upside_down_face:

It’s a good idea in general just to prolong the life of everything and save on drawing power.

Alexa plug works great here.

Yep that’s exactly why I chose them

I appreciate your throwing that in there; it did wonders for convincing me it’ll be a long while 'til I wanna play with pedals… if ever.

Greetings all! I see this threads been quiet for a while but I gots questions… If there is a moderator here please let me know if this needs to be somewhere else…
On top of being a bass and guitar guy, I’m a complete pedal junkie. In all my buying and selling of pedals I’ve noticed that cash is always king but I’ve actually done a lot of trading and met some awesome people. I’ve mentioned that I’m not a big social media guy but a friend listed a bunch of pedals I was selling for me on a Reddit and I did a trade with a gent from Walrus Audio. Both men of our word we put the pedals in the mail and voila… new pedal day! Between Craigslist and OfferUp and the occasional Reverb or Ebay purchase I’ve done more trades than purchases or sales in the last 6 months. All that to say…
Does anybody have a short list of pedals they’d be willing to trade or sell? What pedals are you looking for? Have you found the Holy Grail and you’re holding back from tellin us?!?! Lol

This is my small go to board. The Morley volume/Wah gets swapped with a Morley Cliff Burton Fuzz Wah as well depending on what I’m in the mood to play. And that Joyo is super underrated for both guitar and bass. Used it to play out direct to DI on Monday and it was awesome. Even better when you kick it with the Ages of course. Lol

Me too. Having too many pedals would be a problem I would welcome.

That’s cool. Was he trading as an individual or on behalf of the company?
Side note, I haven’t had a chance to use any of their pedals but Walrus Audio makes some of the best looking pedals around.

On the website it says, “a dry blend knob that can go from transparent to thick and saturated”. Is this just a weird way of describing a standard dry signal blend knob or is there something else going on?

Also, I thought it was an interesting touch having the bass boost/cut affect the signal pre distortion. The Guitar Center near me had three in stock a few weeks ago. I need to get back over there and test one out.

Does the Fuzz/Wah let you bring the fuzz in and out with the pedal or is it a Fuzz that uses the pedal to Wah?

No but I do have a couple that were given to me that I will, eventually, pass on through the Gear It Forward thread.

I keep hoping I’ll find some great condition Aguilar pedals at a disgustingly low price. I did find aa Agro selling for $90 but I missed it. Agro, Fuzzistor, TLC Compressor, Filter Twin, Chorusaurus, Octamizer. Mostly I’m just curious how they sound compared to others and there aren’t any in any of the stores near me.

No, I don’t think this exists. What sounds good playing alone versus what sounds good in a mix versus what you can get away with when jamming just drums and bass… I would be very surprised to find a full pedal setup that would work equally well in all those situation.

For instance, I have a TS9b Bass Tube Screamer that sounds amazing to me when playing alone but reports I’ve read say it doesn’t cut through the mix well when playing with a full band.

Now that is a thorough response! Lol.

I’m not sure how he worked it out but I had a boutique drive pedal in a rare colorway he clearly wanted and it was as new colorways were being introduced in their product line so I’m sure they were trying to move some product. I ended up with that Ages drive. Yes the blend knob is really just a blend knob. The 5 possible settings for either soft or hard clipping as well as silicone or LED clipping gives it a ton of range. Oddly, I don’t like it as a stand alone drive. But pushing a pre amp, which is how I have the Joyo set up it is great. I think that little extra bit of post compression made a difference. Going back to all the reviews I had watched I noticed the tones I loved were when they were pushing an edge of breakup amp. The key is stacking!!

On the fuzz wah, I think only the newest model they just released has a variable, treadle controlled, fuzz feature. This one is a wah primarily, though it does allow you to leave the fuzz on independently of whether the wah is on or off which is helpful.

Grail tone is a journey for sure. I am finding myself a fan of Multi effect pedals stacked with other favorites for the versatility. My Zoom B3 and my Line6 M9 have been fun to use with a good drive and a compressor before them. Wah of course as well. Even an M5 can be just right provided you just need the one feature at a time. Octave or any of the effects in the catalog. And down the rabbit hole we go.

Good to know. I hadn’t even thought about this existing, now I want one.

Line6 and Zoom get a lot of love around here for their multi effects pedals.

I guess this turned into the Official Bass Buzz Pedalboard Thread :tm: ?

Well, here’s my smol one:

Someone got me a Pedaltrain Nano a few years ago. The two TC pedals are more for ambienty stuff; if I was in a band I would probably remove them, shift the Darkglass over, and get a Wampler Ego or some other compressor, and maybe a chorus. The straps are just temporary for right now since I wasn’t quite ready to velcro down the TC pedals.

The best part is that for $65 the whole thing is battery powered  Powerboard LT XL has two 9V/1A center negative circuits, but you won’t (shouldn’t) pickup noise using a chain cable like with a cheap wall adapter. It even has a 1A USB port.

To be a bass player in a band the Nano is probably enough pedalboard for my needs tbh. Though if I wanted to go bigger, well, those Templeboards are mighty fancy, though if I went beyond this I would just get some kind of multi-effect with presets and call it a day.

Honestly, I also love my ST-300 Mini tuner pedal. I actually struggle to use other tuners, now lol, because I’m so used to the spinny LED wheel of a strobe tuner.

The two halves aren’t connected because well, I just didn’t, yet. Also there is an extra power connected between the two TC pedlas that I can use to power and patch in a pedal between them.
