This isn’t the usual question, but I’d like to know if anyone has a recommendation for a good chair for practicing bass? I’m currently sitting on a desk chair that is well past it’s prime. The only saving grace is that it has armrests that fold up and don’t get in the way. Beyond that and general comfort, should I be looking for anything specific?
Depending on the space you have I’ve been using a wide piano bench for the longest time. Any comfortable chair with no armrest preferred. I don’t like one with wheels.
I have the same problem. I got six ribs broken from an unfortunate collision a few years ago. I’ve found that a standard kitchen chair with a padded back works fine. Looks like playing standing up is a thing of the past for me too.
I have the Fender 351 Studio Seat and it works pretty well. It’s basically a tall stool with a removable back, and it also doubles as a guitar stand. I think Gator Frameworks sells something similar. I love it and it sits out of the way in the corner when not in use.
I actually found this more comfortable.
IKEA folding stool not padded. Padding is comfortable for a short session, sitting on a soft padded stool for a long session puts my legs to sleep. Thousand needles sensations is not fun,
Watch out for the stand tripping you up. I’ve strapped up the stand part of my stool permanently because it provides a far better trip hazard than stand!
