I must be misremembering because at the end of Dune I thought Alia was something like a week old
Strong murder infant toddlering around the battlefield with a knife, finishing off wounded enemies

Nope, she was a toddler. The David Lynch Dune got her age about right.
Need to reread. Apparently 15 in Messiah. So, still dubious for ol’ Duncan but not as bas as the 12 I was expecting her to be.
Also, Murder Toddler
In Messiah she is harder to easily describe but maybe “fanatically loyal murder sister”. Though that doesn’t do her justice.
I’m doing the series again now on audiobook while I walk the dogs in the evening. Reverend mother psychopathic murder prophet?
She’s basically the best character. GRRM did a shoddy ripofff with Arya Stark. Didn’t really even change the name
As much as “everyone” hates the last season (I don’t), I loved how she took out the night king. That battle of winterfell episode was just aces in my book tbh.
my only gripe is he won’t write the damn book
Oh god… don’t get me started. I’ve been bitching about that ever since the damn show finished. I refused to watch it for the longest time because I wanted to finish the books first, which I started when I was a teenager…
Some bits are good, some bits are tolerable, what they did with Chani is an abomination.
Like worse than what actually happens to her in the books?
Well we are talking about Dune here, where she was firmly in support of Paul-Muad 'dib.
She certainly wasn’t the sulky frowny character in this version.
Should definitely be fiercely fierce at this point in time (pre-Irulan).
She also understood the need for the political marriage and that Paul would never sleep with Irulan, she knew she was Paul’s only love.
Trying to remember what caused her to finally split on the Shai-hulud
Re-writing the script to make her a “strong female character” and not understanding the story is my guess.
I liked where they were going with her character, giving her more weight than what she had in the books.
she did that in Messiah in the books IIRC - and she was a strong character in the books.
Absolutely she was a strong character in the books, and that is kinda the point.
Chani didn’t need changing, like Deja-Thoris she supported her husband but had power in her own right and was also a badass
Question for all you Dune book nerds.
I watched Dune and thought Timotei Chalamet had the personality of a wet tea towel.
Is he like this in the book? Those sand people wouldn’t have followed him to the corner shop much less think he’s the messiah.
