@howard would you mind sharing some of these bass forward songs, so I can broaden my exposure? Thanks!

You bet! A lot of the post-punk genre is like this, with the bass driving the song and the guitar and keyboards providing atmosphere and some melody. Two of my bass heroes, Peter Hook of Joy Division/New Order and Simon Gallup of The Cure, provide excellent examples.

Peter Hook generally plays the bass as a midrange lead instrument. Here’s a couple examples.

You hear the bass come in first, and the bass line is as much or more melody as accompaniment. It drives the song.

Similarly, The Cure has a lot of songs in this vein. Complex basslines that drive the song, and sometimes are the song.

“As it is when it was” and “Disintegration” there are great examples. The first 30 seconds of Disintegration there is almost all bass and drums - a single guitar chord at the start and keyboard pads, but the repeating part is bass. And that’s a fun bassline to play. Even though that just repeats, that is the fundamental of the song.

Neat little bassline to play for fun. Good pick string crossing practice. Here’s a good view of someone doing it

It’s that time of year again! Time to start thinking about which Christmas song you want to cover.
Yeah, it’s only Halloween, but I’m already seeing Christmas displays in the stores. Ho ho ho

I’m gonna give “Christmas Time Is Here” by Vince Guaraldi a try. It’s either going to be a shining success or sound like a funeral dirge.

It’s all for fun, no pressure. :smiley_cat:

I’m going to bag ‘Run Rudolf Run’ this time - the cover by Kilminster, Grohl and Gibbons

Already have one picked out.

No Christmas music until after Thanksgiving—Family rule at my house.

DO you have tab/transcription for that? I love that tune!

Sorry no dice - I think it’s pretty straightforward rock n roll though so I’ll probably check chordify or use the automatic chord detector on Moises

It’s a week after Thanksgiving and nobody has yet posted a Christmas cover so I guess I’ll start it off for 2022.
I recorded this back in 2020 when I was still a newbie to recording/mixing covers. I didn’t post it then because I wasn’t happy with the way it turned out (the bass is way too hot). I decided to put it up here to get the Christmas ball rolling. Let’s see some more before the 25th. :christmas_tree: :christmas_tree: :christmas_tree:

I don’t here anything wrong with this at all @JerryP - sounds great.
I am mixed up in the middle of a tough song I am determined to finish for my 3-year Bassaversary in January so I don’t think I will be sqeaking in a holiday diddy. But maybe.

We just put up our tree today and now your cover, so I’m feeling it. Just picked out a song, I’ll give it go. So nice, can’t believe this was a “throwaway” for you, really enjoyed it.
