Going for more. I just love this song.
And these pups are really killers.

  • Fender Player Series Jazz Bass (Custom Shop 60s pickups)
  • Universal Audio Volt 1
  • Amplitube 5
  • Lalal.ai for removal of original bass

Amp sim:

  • SVX-15R

Thanks man! That one could use some work for sure - I appreciate your feedback. I was usually coming in on time but that one take where I got most of the rest of it down had a pretty bad entrance.

Great tune man! I can’t say I had heard it before but it has a great beat and bass line. Great job and thanks for sharing.

:eyes:

Great cover @Barney ! I can be pretty picky about the country I listen to but this was a good groove. I love that bass as well! Those VHS-ish stripes are an excellent touch.

 I quite enjoyed this @Ed - I wonder though, can he still be Johnny Paycheck if he quits his job? :upside_down_face: :money_mouth_face:

Hot Dang dude! That was funky as hell. I have the same bass (with stock pups tho), you make it sing with that slapping! Thanks for sharing.

I really enjoyed this one as well @Barney - Your video production skills are quite nice man. I absolutely love that you included the re-painting process for your Talman. That color is quite striking indeed.

OMG. I haven’t even listened yet and I’m super excited for this one…

Okay…I may have bopped a bit too hard on that one and it wasn’t even the 12 inch mix! Damn man, you make it look effortless. Fantastic Job.

Now that I’m caught up I can drop my next cover in a few minutes. :metal:

Cover #3 - Garbage - I’m Happy When it Rains (Song #28 on the 50 Songs Challenge)

Here we go! Finally time to let that H pickup shine! I went preamp off and isolated to the H pickup for this one. My timing isn’t perfect on this one either and I simplified a couple parts that were giving me trouble but overall I’m pretty happy with this take. The last note got noise gated a bit…I didn’t realize that filter was on.

The bass was fuzzed up with a Maelstrom Bass Drive pedal (which I hand built from an AionFX kit - it’s a Darkglass MicroTubes clone) and then ran into my Fender Rumble 40 with XLR Out to Scarlet 2i2 into Garageband. OBS monitors the Desktop Audio so it can get the bassless track plus my input.

Original Bass removed with Moises.ai - I only have one more free split, might have to find an alternative or pony up some cash…

Pedal Settings: Volume 55%, Drive 100%, Blend 65%, Tone 65% Edit: Forgot about the tone switches. I had Low on Boost and High on Cut.

Amp Settings: Gain at 25%, Contour Voicing, Bass at 75%, Low Mid at 50%, High Mid at 75%, and Treble at 75%.

This was a fun one to play with. I’ll have to work on my trouble spots so I can post a v2.0 in the future.

Would you please also post this in the appropriate 50 song thread? Thanks!

Well done again. Great tone.
These and the Fralins are tied in my mind for best Jazz pickups. I have them both on basses with both rounds and flats and love them both for different reasons.

Sounded great to me. Fuzz was awesome.

I didn’t really hear any timing issues.
First rule of cover thread is don’t point out your mistakes, no one may notice. :upside_down_face:

Thanks @John_E I appreciate that.

I have this issue of being overly critical of my creative efforts. I should work on that.

Money @Growl!

Awesome. Love this song nonstop 8th notes it was one of the song in the set at possibly my first performance in high school in Thailand . We did the “European Queen” version. I remember that this song gave no room to breathe or make mistakes, I was so nervous, lol. You made it look like a walk in the park.

That’s a great cover love the aggressive look of the bass with JHJ config. Interesting accent on down strokes only picking. Fun song for sure.

Thanks @Al1885

I was really into Metallica as a youth and would imitate Hetfield’s style of picking. I guess it stuck… I did try picking it with alternating strokes but I made far more mistakes that way.

It took me long time to get to the point where it seems like a walk in the park.
Nonstop repetitions and playing can be challenging at first.

Btw if it was in Thailand why wasn’t it “Asian Queen”? :smile_cat:

@cheeze_pizza
You are already improving, yeah man! Nice cover. Im learning alot of new songs here.

P.S. Dont tell Josh but I never checked 50 songs challenge.

@John_E @cheeze_pizza @Al1885 Thanks guys.

I have wanted to learn this song for a long time. I wasn’t going to record this one for another week or two, but when I started playing it felt like today was the day.

I have also enjoyed using Moises to remove the bass track. I feel like I can be slightly more “in the mix”. My other covers are very bass heavy partly because it’s a bass cover and I like to showcase the bass part and also to play over the original bass.

Yet another great cover, we are off to a great start of the year. At this rate we’d doubling the covers from last year.

@Paul_9207 thats is a killer tone from the contemporary man. I had that stealth black one and the newer one with the roasted maple neck. I gotta tell you it’s a must have for every studios.

Your playing was just on point and notes feels like you’ve been playing this songs forever, good job.

How that started I thought it was Weekend.
I gotta say that song reminded me of childhood. So many songs were like that back then.
Really nice and relaxing groove.
You played great, and in the pocket.

Give us more!
