Post your covers! (2023)

Same here. I keep asking around town. Eventually something will turn up. Until then all I can do is put in the work, just like you.

Started this one from scratch yesterday afternoon. Still a work in progress but I’m pretty happy with this take. Pretty sure the original is played with a pick, and, well…I don’t pick, so the tone isn’t quite right. Let me know what you guys think!

Sounds good to me :ok_hand:

Right at the beginning with the couple of cheeky octaves that still gets me :joy:

One of my favorite Cake songs, and a pretty easy one to learn in a day.

@Old_WannaBe That great dude, dunno why you are not happy with it. Whenever I see someone using pick Im already half amazed. For the life of me I cant do it

@Ant Hey man, thats awesome stuff, however I might suggest you bring up bass channel in your mix a bit for covers, otherwise great mix levels for a track. Even with studio headphone s I had issue hearing it. Anyhow great work. Keep going.

@PamPurrs Thanks Pam :heart:

  1. timing is off…I am a bit behind the whole song.–maybe I just messed up synching the track in reaper.
  2. not happy with the tone…too scratchy
  3. messed up at the end and dropped a couple of notes because pick got hung up…seemed to recover ok though.

It sounded fine to me. I’m not familiar with that song or that band, so I’m not the best person to critique it, but i didn’t notice any timing issues.

Fluorescent Adolescent - great tone here and mix.
It’s Coming Down - sat right nice in the mix to me, tone isn’t my fave, but it doesn’t have to be, lol

Great job on both

Nice work on the bassline.
For some reason the bass sounds a little ‘cloudy’ - if that makes sense.
Muddy but not that, I would use murky.
Maybe that is what you were going for, maybe a result of the bass removal?
Just seemed like a giant foggy cloud was surrounding the bass.

Could be just me though.
Great tune and you did great with it.

I think that might be 15’’ cab sim plus bit of bass boost.
Also might be too obvious cause bass is pretty high in the mix. Depends what you listen it on.
However I liked the tone for this song. We might be hearing different things.

Thanks.

I actually am not a fan at all of how 15" speakers sound for bass (unless used as only a sub, then they are fine). You are probably right.

The sweet spot for speakers is either 10" or 12" for me; YMMV.

I agree, but

I’d say that a lot of 15" can sound quite good, but they need a pretty high power to move a lot of air through their heavy cone. A 15" will hardly work with a low wattage / low volume, and sound very dull, whereas the 10" and 12" are fine with all volumes level.

That makes sense; might be ok really loud. Then again, so is a 2x10

Decided to share my ugly mug with you guys, first video cover I’ve done. Had to re-record the song since I couldn’t get the audio to sync properly with my video. I know it’s the same song I already posted but now you can put a face to the name! Video is a little behind the audio at times, and I cut off half my head. Nice.

OMG, @Ant
Back 2 Back Arctic Monkeys!

My sloppy rendition of Mardy Bum! Needs a lot of practice, but was so fun to learn. I’ve played this at least 100 times and recorded this 7 times. I also now play the high-neck part lower around the 3-4-5th frets. Some day when I can play through it without gaffing it I may post the newer version.

Awesome tone and you nailed it!

Perfect is the enemy of good.

It sounded great to me. We’re all just here to have fun and improve. I don’t think we have any session musicians on the forum? So being realistic about where you are is important. I suck at picking. You’re light years ahead of me on the picking front. It’s all relative and unimportant in a big picture kind of way.

Sounded good to me! I applaud you for playing through your mistakes! Nice recoveries - something I struggle with if I get off rhythm. I’ll try this one next and see if I can get a playable cover up tomorrow. Their lines are really fun to learn & play :metal:
