Nicely done @barney

I saw Matisyahu live about 16 years ago. I had never heard of them at the time and they opened for 311. Matt comes on stage with an Abe Lincoln style hat and a black suit and beard. I was thinking “Who is this guy?” Anyway, he had a smile on his face the whole time he was on stage, just loving every minute of it. I had never seen someone so happy to be performing for people. They also did a great job. Loved the music and the show. I became a fan that day.

Anyway, great song, great cover. I need to listen to some more Matisyahu, It’s been a while.

Thanks!

Yeah, I was a fan the first time I heard him. His… message, I guess, doesn’t really apply to me, but I really dig the music and he’s got a great flow.

Good job on that cover @JustTim . Not my kind of music to listen to, but I enjoyed watching you nonetheless.

Nice job @groaner.
Bass tone is a bit muddy for me.
Great job on a pretty tough bassline.
Remember - don’t point out your mistakes, and if no one comments on them, they don’t exist.

This sounds great @Ant
Bass maybe a tiny bit too low, but sits tone wise nicely.

Great job as usual @Barney
Bass tone is a tad ‘tinny’ by my ear, but this may be due to bass removal.
Sometimes I like doubling the bass track (simply copy your final take in the DAW and adjust gain) - gives a bit of the lower end back sometimes.

I also vote for the whole album!

This sounds great @JustTim you kept a very good groove on this.
Tone great too!

Thanks John!
Shh. don’t tell anyone

I agree on the muddy tone. I was trying to play with that and it sounded different in my ears when I recorded. Also that was my first attempt at exporting the backing and bass in separate channels and then bringing them into Resolve. I’ve yet to play with my amplitude purchase. Maybe I should try it on that track! Will be a good learning tool.

I’ve been messing around with the mixes on these covers, I try to get them as close to the original mix as possible but this one I have my gain turned up as high as possible and increased my db on my recording to +3, not sure how much louder I can crank it!

Perhaps I should keep quiet here (as I never post a cover and hardly ever praise any of you guys who constantly put themselves out there to get some constructive criticism - so, a huge tip of the hat collectively here to ALL posters, as well as to ALL of you supporting those efforts - well done! I just can’t keep up…)

But, that said, I wanted to quickly chime in with an observation, as you, @groaner, and @ant allow the comparison of your efforts on the same song:
this is not an easy line to nail. You are well aware of your timing issues, but even if you had all the notes in the right places, the difference to what @ant plays is that his note lengths are much better “defined”, while you have little focus on that (and all focus on the timing). That is very understandable, but the line becomes funky and driving only when you start to play the right note lengths, and that means especially observe the rests, i.e., stop the notes from ringing too long, but instead leave daylight between them.

Hope this makes some sense

Agree 100%. The difficulty in this line isn’t so much in the notes as it’s all pretty centered around a handful of frets, it’s getting the tiny rests in between notes that I found most challenging. The bridge gave me some trouble as well and the transition into the outro verse where the line speeds way up with a bunch of 16th notes - my brain wanted to play it at the same tempo as the earlier verses :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: almost have another arctic monkeys song ready to post, I have one take I am pretty happy with but I demand as close to perfect as I can get! Should have it done later this afternoon :metal:

Thanks @joergkutter , Like @ant already noted, it’s not a lot of difficult movement but nailing the timing is more difficult.

I had played this song 100 times and while I really like it, I was reaching the end of my " I gotta get this perfect" requirements. As I get better (only been playing since June) I’ll press myself to hold my posts until I’m completely happy with the result. For now, it’s more of a tracking tool to see my progress.

Thanks again!

I wouldn’t hold your posts, keep ‘em coming. That’s how we learn.

We also have a “practice segment” thread where you can post a short piece for feedback.

No, that was not my intention at all. You should post as much as you can and get feedback (and see yourself play).

I only wanted to make you aware of another aspect to (eventually) work on

No worries, and thanks! I do find it helpful.

This! And then everyone can learn by watching each other and seeing the feedback. (You’re all much braver than I am! - I’ve posted only one cover in almost 4 years :rooster:)

I just can’t get enough of this band! Might end up covering the whole album at this rate! Had to tab this one from scratch as well since everything on the internet was garbage.
