Post your covers! (2023)

Always get excited when I see a @Barney cover pop up.
This looks really hard! And you did great.
My feedback is that the chorus runs sound a bit robotic vs the original, I think he played them not as “straight” as you did. There’s a bit of a groove missing.
Hope this makes sense.
Don’t get me wrong though, you did great. I don’t do these super fast tunes at all.

Yeah @John_E / @howard I’m pretty much at the edge of my current ability with this song. I definitely have no extra bandwidth to do anything except try and stay in time and hit the notes. But we do improve by stretching ourselves a little bit I feel.

It’ll be interesting to revisit this in a few years time and see how it feels. I now know from working my way through this album that John McVie is a kick ass bassist.

Hey thanks @John_E ! Thank God those riffs are quite short - the verse sections are a real relief  I’m not sure what I’m actually messing up on but I think its the eighth notes at the end of the first measure -

1 2 (3 & 4 &) : 1 2 (3 & 4)

it’s hard to practise them on the metronome because they’re so fast… Still, something to work on

Thanks @Ant ! That’s the spirit  :+1:

Hey @mediaklan the song demands a pick. Anyway picks rule fingers drool. :stuck_out_tongue:

Nice to see you back at it @Ed! That sounded so fun I had to try to play along, nicely done. This song reminds me of The Walking Dead.

Once again, I’m behind in the Post your Covers thread, so all I can say is kudos to all that made the effort. I’ll try to go through and listen to each of them when I get a chance.

Today I bring some love to the cover thread with Barry White’s Love’s Theme :heartpulse:. Actually I originally intended to record a short fragment for the missis for Valentine’s Day, but thought I might try the while song and put it on youtube. I may be able to get her to try the flute part …

The bass part is pretty minimal, not surprising really, considering it’s part of the 40-piece Love Unlimited Orchestra  . No effects needed, although with hindsight, I may be tempted to cut some of the bass with an EQ.

The keen-eyed among you will probably notice that the T-bird is strung as ADGC. I originally did this to try some Bach pieces but it actually works really well with Manowar, and I suppose any track where you don’t need the bottom 5 frets. It’s actually really friendly to play - the strings feel a lot lighter. The only problem was that I had to buy a 6-string pack and I’ve got 2 spares (E and B)

Very nice as always @Barney :ok_hand: that is some pro level production!

How do you capture videos by the way? You have a couple of clips of Fleetwood mac in there?

Hey @Ed I liked that a lot. Barry White is on my job site playlist numerous times. Really nice tone/mix.

How do I make videos? I put my Iphone on a little tripod on my desk, I record the video on that, I also record me playing in GarageBand at the same time (my DAW).

I create a separate folder for each cover and pull the various files I need into that. So I drag in my Iphone video file, my GarageBand finished mix track, plus any video or still images I want to use.

To grab video I want to use from YouTube I use this:

Copy and paste the appropriate URL of the video you want and choose MP4 to get the video file. If you choose MP3 you get a copy of the audio of the video.

I drag this MP4 file into my covers folder. I now have all the parts I need to make the video. I use Imovie for this. I drag into the timeline my audio track and original video and sync the two up manually. It’s a pain but I’m getting quicker.

Once I’ve done that I drag the other video into the timeline above my video. I then splice that video up into short parts that I think are interesting. I delete most of this video ending up with fragments of the stuff I want. Then drag them around to the point in the song i want.

Once I’m happy I export the movie from Imovie and upload to youTube.

For the Blinding Lights cover I used a lot more of the video I’d downloaded because there’s really not much going on bass playing wise plus I really thought it fitted the song really well. I guess there are no rules. Just have fun.
