That’s a great price of editing and playing, @Vince really I have it in me to be that creative, lol.
Played with attitude! I like it! Great job @ed!
Bass sounds and looks great! I love the block inlays!
@John_E Thanks. Your comment reminds me to ask this group a question! I usually have to mess with my bass recording after the fact in my software to make it match the horribly recorded song I’ve gotten from miking a speaker. Where is everyone getting such clean versions of original songs to play along to?
You purchase & download a tune from whatever online service you use, I use iTunes.
Then I use Moises to separate out the track into vocals/drums/bass/other.
Those for tracks get imported in the DAW.
For bass, I never mic the bass, always go directly into my DAI from back of amp or just the bass or other preamp, etc.
+1 to all this.
I get the original track and learn the song from that. I use Moises to cut out the bass from the original track and create a bass free mp3 track. I now have two mp3 tracks of the same song.
I import the original track and the bass removed track as 2 separate tracks into my DAW (GarageBand).
I record from my Bass into my HX Stomp into my DAW. I don’t mic anything or go via my Amp.
I play the original track, mute the bass removed track and record my separate bass track against that.
To mix my final song, I mute the original track, unmute the bass removed track and mix accordingly. I hope this makes sense @Vince?
Some random stuff but the pure Bassline and Bassline/melody combined versions of At Dooms Gate from Doom 2016
Tuning was Drop D and was played on the Yamaha Trbx174
I haven’t played with this one half as much as my 174ew honestly lol She needs more love considering how amazing she feels
Learned this song 3 days give or take into playing bass and and do excuse my string clicking when I alternate from E to A# still figuring out how to make that transition super smooth
could you precise clearly what is the artist and song name, please ? I try to keep a track of all covers on this thread, and I need those informations.
thanks !
Oh my bad! It’s At Dooms Gate by Mick Gordon from the Doom series specifically the 2016 Doom game
thanks
@John_E I re-recorded it to make the bass stand out more. If you’re interested in having a look again I posted on Vimeo this time. Still a little distortion, but turned off the tube screamer etc.
Thanks Barney. For some reason, I can’t seem to find anywhere that will just sell me a song. I have soundcloud, Amazon Canada, Spotify, You Tube. They all just want to charge for a streaming service and don’t appear to offer a download that I can purchase and remove from their platform. I’ll look into itunes tomorrow here.
Check your messages @Vince
Hey @Al1885 thanks for the review ! Having the bass that low actually really helps playing at speed because you can engage your whole arm and shoulder…
There’s a good article about it here:
“C.J. continued to experiment as he found that his forearm continued to lock up. Eventually, he took the lowered bass to the extreme: it was now down to his knee caps, with his forearm fully extended. It was now all in the wrist, which allowed C.J. to take the forearm out of the equation. That was the secret – C.J. found that he could play extremely fast songs for extended periods of time without the pain and discomfort that initially plagued him in the band.”

However you have to kiss goodbye to playing anything complicated with the left hand, or indeed the upper two strings… fortunately that doesn’t seem to be a problem with Ramones tracks Iron maiden is going to be difficult though…
Thanks @RuknRole It’s a great little package overall, although I’m finding the cable jack is a little loose. Nothing fatal but needs tightening…
Well heck I’m really outta loop. 200+ new posts.
It will take me a while to catch up.
In meantime, I still didnt post in Show Your Basses, but fiver arrived.
Been fiddling for a day or two.
So I picked something easier to record, since I’m still getting used to more strings. Still missing a pluck here and there. Initially I uploaded to YouTube, but got insta Worldwide blocked. So here’s Vimeo link.
Bass cover of the track Kylie Minogue - In Your Eyes.
First time recording and using a five string bass.
Gear used:
- Yamaha BBG5S '94
- Universal Audio Volt 1
- Amplitube 5
- Lalal.ai for removal of original bass
Amp sim:
Forgot to write it down -.-
Kylie! Underrated, at least her club remixes
Awesome cover. Glad to see someone covering her. BB sounds amazing.
Love it, At Dooms Gate and Hysteria are my go to warm up tracks.
However I prefer original more.
You did well, for the sake of me, I can’t handle the pick.
@John_E Not even gonna quote anything specefic from covers, you slay it always.
One of my all time favorite songs. You did it justice. Keep it up!
Pokes my eyes always RnR suits you! Sounds awesome.
Wow sounds epic, dont tempt me into GAS. Now Wherever I lay my hat!
<3 Bill Withers grooves. Oh and that Wick sounds amazing.
Rick sits so good in a mix. However did you do Roundabout?
Well done. Simple lines always groove. Good timing.
Bzzz Bzzz. Ahh it always gets my hips moving.
Her content being blocked is probably reason why there is not more
Yeah big part of my childhood were her songs. Heard it few days back accidentally, brought back few memories, and bassline is nice, so decided to record it on fiver, while I’m getting acclimated to it.
BB is amazing. Inspires me to play so much.
Sounds great man!!
Nicely done as always. Thanks for sharing.
