That part when you thanked Jerry for his good comment, that was nice. Then when he clicked the heart liking your post, that was nice too. If you and Jerry click the heart on this post, then we can keep that going, which would be nice. ![]()
Cool song and nice playing! I’m going to have to look them up. When i heard the way the lead singer rolled his “r’s” I instantly thought of Marcus Gronholm from when I used to watch the World Rally Championship. Felt kinda validated when I looked them up and saw they are from Finland.
So I’ve been hellishly busy lately and, whilst I’ve kept up lessons and practice, I’ve not had time to work on covers. Also I seem to have always picked slightly difficult ones previously. I’m not sure quite why they were difficult, not fast or anything, but this one was a lot easier. I’m not totally happy with it yet (I lost the timing a bit in the fade out which was super annoying!!!) but I don’t think it’s terrible.
So here it is, my second cover!
Using my EHB1500. Backing track had the bass stripped by Moises.
Recorded through Focusrite Scarlett Solo. No effects, pedals etc.
Pink Floyd - Another Brick in the Wall
That’s is awesome @HighlandBass. The fade out is like the last lap of F1 racing and you’ve been leading for the start, sometimes it requires extra concentration not to lose it, ![]()
Great tone on it and you just need a few more reps then it your notes will drop in slightly right behind the beat. This is not exactly an easy song and you did very well.
I didn’t hear the first mix, but I like where the bass is at now. Just my 2 cents, but I prefer a bass forward mix for these covers. I know we all get pretty good at straining our ears to hear the bass parts in studio recordings but its nice when you don’t have to. Great job as always Johnny!
Loving everything about this @BumbleJazz. The triplets, syncopation, beautiful fills, the changes, all so nice. 2 Weeks is not long at all to get a song like this down, totally worth it!
@Morkai you’ve got another follower on Youtube ![]()
About the cover, nice playing, and about the tone I could suggest to lower the mids (that tend to “fart”) and maybe add a little bit of saturation to bring that nasty rock tone. ![]()
Thank you ![]()
lol, ok, I haven’t messed with the preamp settings since I changed strings. Thanks.
Uhh… is this the plugin bits of Reaper that I haven’t touched yet cause it’s a little overwhelming?
you can do that with plugins but that’s not how I do (I’m somewhat an hardware guy) so I can’t say really … but yeah for sure, there are efficient plugins to make a nice saturation. @howard could certainly list a few ones ![]()
Ahh, I haven’t delved into pedals yet either, cause they look like a terrifying money sinkhole that once started on my adhd brain will gleefully get sucked all the way to the bottom until I have a pedal board to rival Justin Chancellor…
I do have a Zoom B1X FOUR lurking in my amazon cart waiting for me to pull the trigger on it.
indeed
that’s an excellent starting point actually
Justin’s wah pedal is like 300 or 400 alone haha. Check the Zoom MS-60B also. I have it and it has some good effects as well. The one you mentioned looks really good though!
nobody needs that ![]()
You ain’t wrong haha ![]()
Oh yes ![]()
Actually compression with lots of makeup gain alone can add a lot. But if you want to go over the top you can also throw in saturation-based distortion.
There’s a bunch of people in to lofi tape saturation too. I don’t own any but it was popular a while back.
These days for stuff like saturation I usually just make my own in Kilohearts Multipass by putting separate compressors and overdrives in multiple frequency bands. This lets you bring up mids warmth and saturation and high end compression without adding mud to the low end.
yeah not a very beginner friendly method ![]()
Nope not at all ![]()
For most people… use basic compression to get saturation and overall loudness. This is what compressors do. It’s also what tubes do, in a way.
For more advanced… also use compression, just in a little more complicated way ![]()

The words appear to be english… but…
Damn, I guess this is how my parents feel when I computer geek at them, lol.
