The funny thing is it’s actually really simple and visual and that’s the nice thing about it
@Morkai for a starting point just try the Overdrive things on the Zoom and it will work fine !
Yep overdrive is the other critical tool.
Actually this plugin on its own is actually quite good and I use it on most of my bass patches:
usually I will put one of these (or another overdrive distortion) and a compressor in each of low, mids, and high frequency bands and adjust each proportionally to get a sound I like. It’s almost like an amp sim
Just using one of these on a track and turning up its “drive” will saturate with a nice overdrive saturation. But gotta be careful with it on its own.
Generally: overdrive generates the additional frequencies that saturate, and compression tames the fuzziness and brings up the signal body. Combined you get warmth and saturation. Compression alone will bring up the signal body at the expense of the peaks, which also adds loudness, and a saturation-like effect as the dynamics are reduced.
I’m over a grand into pedals so far, don’t have an actual pedalboard yet and still working on basics… before I get into the fun effects ones.
My first reaction to this was “wait that’s absurd”
My second reaction was to add up what I’ve spent on my pretty modest pedalboard. It’s like $1100-1200. And I want a helix lt
yup, this is why I need to be careful, lol.
I already don’t wanna do the math on all the little, and not so little bits I’ve picked up since starting this hobby
Nice cover #2! Little more difficult, right? Nice job hitting the rests and keeping time in general. You seem comfortable with both hands and you play standing like a rock star Oh and definitely buy the Zoom
Very well done HighlandBass!
Awesome job Morkai!
Yeah I was in that deep at the end. I blame Darkglass and also my addiction to the tube sound in amps/preamps at the time.
Selling it all recouped a lot but then I spent it on software effects and tools so lol oh well.
I am way deeper than that into plugins now.
I’m in $300 ish on the Adam I got used. Then $150 for a used octave pedal and $200 for a new power supply and that’s most of it. There’s also the $90 tuner that I but use the most and appreciate and also find absurdly experience for a tuner.
Video unavailable but I watched it on YouTube, awesome @Morkai. Tight bass and love how you just get into the music. I got half the hair flick, may be next cover we’d get the full one,
Nice!! @dlamson13
Did you try to sneak in a harmonic slide or it’s on the original. That sounds great man. Very tastefully done especially with a fretless, this song can easily get out of hand on a fretless.
Thank you For sure, I had the general rhythm down almost immediately, it was not tripping myself up when it changed and nailing the damn fret changes without overshooting when going from like 2 - 7 that took me forever. Probably doesn’t help I generally play late at night in a dark office.
I actually can’t play sitting down, I’m a short runt (5’4) and to top it off I have a short torso and long arms. (I’m the exact same height as my mum but I can always reach things higher than she can) If I sit and put my bass on my leg the top side is damn near under my chin and my right wrist starts complaining in a very short time about the kooky position it’s in.
But hey, standing up is more fun and I get to dance around as well, eventually I’ll perfect my moshing while playing techniques.
It’s on it’s way
Weird, it didn’t even get dinged for copyright checks like my first one did.
Thank you Music has always been the type of art that speaks to my soul so when I love a song, I really love it
Haha, I’ll see what I can do
Thanks @JerryP
You know you want to girl! I saw that pre kick and flick. It looks like you are enjoying yourself and about to do them.
I really like the bass tone in this, great work!
If you start wanting to sit, at least a little, it might be worth looking at guitar stools, or any stools to be honest. They give some support whilst keeping you in a semi standing position allowing your bass to hang a bit lower than in a normal sitting position.
Nice covers by the way!
