How do you find the line 6pod express? Worth buying?

I like it. The amp sims are all pretty nice but I generally only use the “studio”, “round” or “modern” sim. The compressors are nice, overdrive & distortion work nicely as well. The only effects that I don’t like are the synth ones. The octave works OK, but the other effects are pretty meh.

One thing I don’t like is not having the ability to turn on/off individual effects. Since they’re all adjusted with knobs you have to roll them on/off. If you need to turn a pedal on/off mid song you have to roll through other effects to get there which sounds crappy. You can see me rolling the overdrive up for the final verse in the cover I just posted. That was fine since I already had some overdrive on.

For the price I’d say it’s definitely worth it, I think it was around $180 USD? Eventually I’ll replace it with individual pedals or a better multi fx

Thanks so much. I appreciate all the information you provided. I’m currently looking to explore the pedal rabbit hole, so having all this is great. Thanks again!

That’s a very nice bass, @Ant, and one of my fave RATM bass lines. Nice work!

ETA: I never realized Maynard was on that track. Doh!

Thanks buddy! It’s probably my favorite rage track, at least off of that album. Bullet in the head is awesome as well, and I really want to play Bombtrack but the intro is so friggin difficult. I can play the whole song except the intro which is super frustrating. It’s a real finger twister and I have a lot of trouble muting it. Some day…

Excellent cover @JerryP I played this at a school event before and remembered fighting not to add any notes. You have a greater self discipline than I do/ did, :joy:

That’s a killer bass tone. I put on my favorite IEM to listen to this cover and it did not disappoint.

Awesome man. Very laid back and groovy. Like @JerryP, I’m becoming a Mayer Hawthorne fan. He’s on my playlist.

Wow, that sounds so awesome. The double stops pull is super awesome! The descending double stops is just as cool. Have I ever told you I love StingRay tone? I know that you made Tim proud.

Thanks Al I appreciate that! The double stops really sound awesome, it just adds so much more to the sound. I especially like the ones in the intro as they’re almost popped. Such a crispy tone from the Stingray! I am instantly in love with this bass. You were 100% right when you told me in the GAS thread that the stingray would be perfect for the genres I like to play and you couldn’t have been more right. Everyone should own one of these.

The dropping of the world’s first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, on 6th August 1945, makes an unlikely subject for a danceable 1980 synth-pop hit. Yet that’s what OMD did.

I remember first hearing the song, waaaaay back then, and thinking wow! But the early 80s were still a time when you hoped the hear a song on the radio, or had the money to buy the single, or the album. I didn’t have the money, so this song, and other songs by this band, were like ephemeral wisps in the air…

OMD - Enola Gay

One of the pleasures of doing all these covers is getting a sense of how a particular song is constructed. I actually hadn’t realised, until yesterday, when I isolated the bass track, just how simple this song is. The same four chords repeated over and over again, F / Dm / B♭ / C. No chorus, just that synth hook, and a really gnarly bass tone, McCluskey (a fellow bassist) riding the root. Wow, what a freakin’ tone!! There was no other option … I broke out the Spector and tuned to drop-D!

(Note: it’s been a tough couple of weeks - work / personal etc - another reason for a simple song! I have harder stuff in the queue, it’s just finding the time to nail them!!)

They were so good live.

Thank you Al!

Yes! Me too! Part of me wanted to sustain a lot of those short notes but the original isolated bass track convinced me not to do it. It did take some discipline to do it as written.

The new Ampeg makes it easier to find the tone I’m looking for.
