Thanks a lot! That part is so fun too. Us bass players can’t hang out in that range too long or the guitarists will get jealous, but it adds some nice spice to a line when you sprinkle it in.
Nice work on that Otis cover too, your new bass is a beauty!
Thanks MB, I appreciate that!
Thanks Al! Oh yeah, the Hendrix thumb thing, very unorthodox and lots of people don’t approve, but hey there are no real rules. I probably spend way too much time with my thumb wrapped around the neck, even on bass.
Right! I can sing and strum an acoustic guitar no problem, but as soon as I try to sing and pluck on a bass my timing goes to crap!
Thanks Jerry! Your turn to do a Petty number
I’m a total introvert and have the self confidence of a wet noodle. But this was a challenge from a dear friend of mine and so I made it happen. I try not to watch them too much when I’m syncing tracks or I’ll pull the whole thing down.
The confidence boost from all the wonderful people here and their kind words does wonders though, believe me
Thank you very much, glad I can introduce you to something new
Great job
It’s an easy song to loose the rhythm on for sure, I’ve been playing it a while now and still get myself out of place on occasions.
Video’s are absolutely not required. Do what makes you comfortable.
There are some excellent threads on the forum for producing recordings.
I really like Moasis for removing the bass line. I use an free app called 4k video downloader to grab the youtube audio and drop it in Moasis. I did get the moasis sub in the end but you can do a certain number of separations for free each month, I think it’s 5.
I’ll be jealous you can both play from memory
Challenge accepted!
Thanks Morkai!
I’m starting to get a bit better and trying to stay “relaxed” while playing. I find it helps with the flow. Sometimes overthinking leads to self-sabotage when trying to play songs or even during lessons.
I’ve found that taking a break for a little while then coming back has helped quite a bit (longer practice sessions I find I lose concentration the longer things drag).
I’ll definitely look into removing the bass track for the next one! Thanks for the tips.
100% for sure, that’s exactly what happens when I turn the damn camera on
It’s called living room stage fright haha
Not sure if these count as “covers” or not… I started recording my progress on the SBL Players Path last year. These are all from level 1, I’m on level 4 now. Figured I’d put them over here and share them, anyway.
All three were very well done. I like that smooth tone.
Thank you, good sir!
This song has special meaning for me. It was the second song at my wedding! I can’t actually remember what we had for the first dance, but we’d agreed that if we were having a cheesy disco, it was going to be an 80s only disco, kicked off by Billy Idol’s White Wedding! My best man had been briefed, get everyone up and get them freakin’ dancing!! It worked, and the rest, as they say, is history!
There are two complications with this song. The first is that awesome opening bass riff - it took a while to master, but I got there. The second is remembering the song chord sequence, especially going into the chorus and when coming out of the song’s c section.
Billy Idol - White Wedding (Part 1)
As you can see, I’m playing the Steinberger, into a Scarlett Solo, then on onto GarageBand. The headphones indicate a ‘live’ take, rather than separating the recording of the bass line and the creation of the video.
Then add your own!
Another well done cover!
Not me here singing (badly and loudly) to your playing!!
Very well done!
That was great! You are playing really well, good job!
