That bass certainly is something. Sounds phenomenal! But don’t sell yourself short, you played that great! Excellent song choice too!
Love it! Nice to actually hear some some bass on this song! You did it justice! Great tone and playing!
Thank you muchly, I still have imposter syndrome from the one I did on Saturday night. I’ll be working my way through a bunch of shoegaze as I get better, so expect more like that (maybe not all day 1 covers). I really want to re-record the Slowdive one I did. I play that one every single day still and it sounds so much better now.
Absolutely, two of my favorites back then. Sidewalking is begging for bass covers
And the whole Cocteaus album Garlands is too
I know you’re all tired of Old Fart Radio, but I had this in the can before I left Hawaii. The video looked like crap so I used some photos of the band and such to replace the video.
The Association - Windy
Thanks for watching!
Thanks Bill
Cracker! You beautifully complemented Peter Green’s exquisite playing. He has to have been one of the most gifted (and haunted) of the early blues electric guitar players and was highly praised by BB King. Sadly died 4 years ago.
Holy crap, I rely too much on the playlists I’ve built. I haven’t heard Sidewalking in at least 5 years. That bass is deliciously gnarly. I’ve got it tucked away for now, but it seems like a good first song to try and transcribe. It doesn’t sound too difficult once you get that main bass line figured out. I’ve looked at Garlands and for now, it’s a bit above my skill level (those octaves in the middle of groups of eighth notes are a nope for me still).
As an artist you are perfectly free to reinterpret that in to something matching your current skills
Looks like whole notes are back on the menu
!
Great cover Jerry!
Fun Boy Three - Our Lips Are Sealed
Written by Terry Hall (The Specials and Fun Boy Three) and Jane Wiedlin (The Go Go’s) I love this version of the song - great memories of 1983, when it was released. Might have a go at The Go Go’s version at some point…
Dingwall Combustion into GarageBand, via a Hotone Ampero One.
The video is another dad / daughter collaboration.
Thank you Paul!
Nice one sunDOG!
Great song and you rocked it. I’ve been meaning to ask you (since I knew you had one) about your thoughts on the Ampero? I’ve been looking at the Ampero stage II (the one with the XLR out) as a second effects chain all the way up to my interface, and am thinking that may be my Christmas gift from my girls this year. The line 6 and Quad look great but to get anything that replaces the whole chain is going to cost $1500 + and my wife doesn’t like me that much (I kid but that would piss her off).
At the moment, I’m running the Ampero One, although I have an Ampero (the next one up) on order. In summary, I like it. It comes with a few bass patches, but it is really easy to set up your own. I’ve tended to take one the preset clean or dirty ones, then iterate from there. I’m doing this - tweaking - on the unit itself, rather than on a PC, and as I said, it’s easy.
The sounds are pretty good. I can’t comment vs a Line 6 or similar, as I haven’t used one, but to my ears, the kinds of noises you can get out of it are pretty cool, especially the stereo effects. The danger, and I have fallen into this trap, is that you over process the bass. It might sound good on its own, but sound awful in the mix of a song.
I’ve used it for band practice and I’ve gigged it. It does what it is supposed to do.
You can use it as an interface - which I do. The only challenge here is getting the levels right. I also have a Scarlett Solo, that’s dead easy to get right. With the Ampero, I have to mess around a bit to get it right, but again, it’s not too hard.
The other great benefit is that it has an aux in and a headphones out. All my practice is done on it - I can’t remember the last time I used my amp.
In summary, for the money, it’s excellent.
BTW, the Ampero has 2 x XLR out.
I just saw that. That’s a really nice feature. It’s got 3 fewer effect slots than the stage but it’s also $400 less. Thank you, this might be the winner. As far as amps/cabs and stuff, how are the bass ones? For example, I really like my Ampeg preamp… do you have any experience using an Ampeg SVT or B15 patch in the Ampero? I could just go Ampero to SGT but I’m trying to have a completely separate 2nd chain if I can swing it.
Yep. I haven’t felt I’ve been lacking in the number of effects slots. As I previously mentioned, I’ve had to stop myself overdoing it! . Plus the money is better in my account, than a shops
They seem pretty effective. I can’t say I recall having specific experience of x or y, I tend to play around with them until I find something I like / suits the song. I’ve tended to mix and match, and have even used guitar amp sims to get a very over-driven sound - I think I did that on this one, the fast version of Queen’s We Will Rock You. (Apologies to the community for reposting a cover I have previously posted )
What’s cool is that there are enough patch locations that you could create a huge number of song-specific ones, or do it by bass. I’ve gone down a bit of a hybrid route - song genre / specific bass. The Ibanez EHB can be quite muddy on the Dingwall patches and the Dingwall and bit toppy on the EHB patches, so they have their own versions of patches, where I’ve mainly played with the EQ. That video that Josh posted regarding proper EQing was great!
