I’d say reposting the same version of a song a couple of times, where you’ve improved your playing in the second one, is cool, especially if you link to the first posting so we can see a before and after.
I have posted different versions of the same song. For example, I posted the rock version of Katy Perry’s I Kissed A Girl, then an acoustic version with a jazz feel. I think that’s entirely legitimate!! So much so, I’ve got a bass cover of an acoustic version of a song I recently posted in the works
I’d also add that I’ve posted bass covers of different bands covers of a single song. I had a bit of a thing for Tainted Love at the beginning of the year
I also don’t see why this would be a problem! I find that moving my body around helps with rhythm and timing. Rich Brown has a video on internalizing the groove and feeling it in your body, or at least he mentioned it in one. As @faydout says, lean into it!
Thanks man! I think tackling this album has really helped me in the theory dept! Starting with ear training, identifying the scales used and then noodling around in those scales to find the note.
Also with creating sheet music and tab, even though I’ve been a bit lazy with the last couple entries and skipped that part.
With the 50 songs, I didn’t put as much effort into the theory of it and mainly went off tabs. This mini-challenge has forced me out of that comfort zone!
Thanks again! I think Allee Futterer has the spot on lock. However, now that she has been touring with Chappell Roan it’s possible Mayer could need a replacement. He usually keeps an all female band though. (follow-up: I forgot the drummer was a dude…! perhaps there is hope lol)
I’ve still got 2 more songs to finish up, and I’m excited to get back to it. July was a crazy month and August has been a busy one thus far as well. I will say that I’ve seen some technique improvement from actually not playing much for a couple weeks. Not sure how that works but I felt much more comfortable playing after the break than I ever have before…
I also learned that the final track on the album, “Eyes of Love” is much harder than “On the Floor” in which Blu De Tiger wrote the bass line for. I’ve already spent a ton of time on Eyes of Love so that will most likely be the next submission, but I’m not there yet!
I might turn in a song from another band just to get a cover in and get that mojo flowing again. Anyways, I’ve gone on long enough…
Thanks, I’m a bit sensitive to the teasing from family. If they are making fun of me, I tend to think the rest of the world thinks I’m a complete plonker…
I had the Kala Journeyman before which was fun but the acoustic body shape really wasn’t that comfortable for long periods. So I sold it.
This solid body version feels just like a smaller bass.
It’s a 41mm nut so very similar feel / string spacing / neck to a regular bass. It takes a little bit of getting used to but it doesn’t feel really cramped.
I’d say the tuners are the weakest part of the bass. They’re OK but after using nice Hipshots on my main bass they feel a little cheap.
Thanks, dude. That song is a blast to play. As simple as the bassline is, those slides and shifts up the fretboard really add a “hold on to your butts and pray” element to it.
