“Freewill” by Rush
The solo, I’ve been practicing for about two years.
Thanks @John_E! The bass is a EBMM, best $3k I’ve spent in a looong while. Absolutely love the tone of this instrument. Feel bad for my Fender now, just hanging there behind me…
Got two for you guys today. Recorded both of these within the last week just didn’t really have time to upload/post them.
This song is actually a lot easier to play than I thought it was going to be. Simple, smooth, and loud AF in the chorus. One of my favorites.
Soundgarden - Blow Up The Outside World
This one came up on my shuffle a couple days ago and the rhythm here is so catchy I had to learn it.
Ted Nugent - Stormtroopin’
really well done @Ant
excellent tone too.
very nice playing. that tone is incredible
This is a stripped back semi-acoustic version of Billy Idol’s White Wedding. The song is bl00dy fantastic and I love that opening bass line!
The original was just the vocal and the guitar, so I thought I’d help Billy and Steve out by adding the bass

Ibanez EHB1000S in to the Ampero One, then on into GarageBand on an iPhone. Video shot by my daughter, also on an iPhone, then processed in iMovie.
Excellent job sunDOG!
You are always too kind, @JerryP!
Great job @JerryP
Great job @saroohoo ! This is song #28 in the 50 Songs Challenge , you should also post it there.
Great Cover!!!
Hallo everyone.
I finished the course today after exactly 4 weeks. I love to play Roxanne, from The Police and i wonder if i should give it a try and do my first video.
What do you think guys?
Yes, do it! Everyone is encouraged to make a video.
Awesome JohnnyB! Love your production skills.
You would think, wouldn’t you? But then I thought the same and gave it my best but Heggie’s lines are all chords and effects and I found it really hard to make anything that sounded right, even reading from tabs. wax & wane was mentioned earlier, I spent forever on that and eventually decided it would have to wait until I’ve advanced a bit. It’s the chords that kill me every time and I’ve not found a way around, root notes sound crap.
Yep, that’s why I settled for Cherry-coloured Funk. Making it easier for yourself only works so long before it just loses the sound of the original bass line altogether. That’s why I haven’t done anything from Bauhaus, Joy Division, or Siousxie and the Banshees yet.
Banshees bass isn’t too bad, I’d recommend Arabian Knights, Israel, Spellbound, all great starting places. There are some straightforward enough lines from Hooky to go at, not sure whether you should play with your bass on the ground though.
The Cure’s Forest is also worth a look for something on the same lines. It stands out though as a great approximation to JJ Burnel’s playing style.
Bonus BassBuzz lore:
If you click on that link provided up on Barney’s vid, scroll down to the 'lil video samples for the solid body basses on the Kala site, and you’ll get to hear yours truly rocking out some solo bass licks.
(You never see my face, but I promise you, those are my blue/green pants!)
The Kala folks are good friends of mine and, literally, 2 miles down the road.
So glad this bass is working for you @Barney !
Disorder is not bad! It’s fast though. One of my favorite basslines to both listen to and to play too.
A Play For Today is fun as well. Probably my favorite Cure album actually.
