Post your covers! (2024)

Sounds great! Nice speed workout. I don’t remember ever hearing that song…its got a nice groove to it.

Thanks, fennario! Happy to have discovered this thread. Fennario/Peggy-O is on my to-do cover list, but I don’t see any bass tabs for it out there, so it’ll have to wait until I am good enough to come up with it myself!

Can’t wait to hear it!

I haven’t broken the seal on doing Dead covers just yet. Not sure exactly why, probably because I just don’t want to butcher them. Hopefully someday soon I’ll feel confident enough to take them on.

Fantastic, you did great! You know I always love a fretless cover  Those V7s are lovely, I would like to try one sometimes but my local shops never have anything Sire.

Welcome @JohnF! Great playing, and nice song choice too

Yes! That might be my favorite thing about this thread. Everybody got their own thing going on, lots of support, lots of fun to see what songs people choose and how they play them.

I’d love to hear that! I’ve messed around with a few Dead tunes but never followed through. Phil Lesh is such an interesting and original player.

A colleague has one that I tried in the office about a month ago. I was daunted by it, but loved the way it felt and sounded. I bought mine second hand - I’m a great fan of second hand - and love it! In fact, I played my short scale Ibanez EHB1000S yesterday evening (next cover incoming ) and having frets felt rather strange for the first couple of minutes

Jimmy Eats World - Bleed America bass cover

This is not a band I know, it was a request, but I love its ’frat rock’ heaviness! Such fun to play along with, especially with the Ibanez growl!

Ibanez EHB1000S, overdriven (i.e. volume up, EQ up, everything up) into a clean patch on the Ampero One, then on into GarageBand, where I applied ‘stereo spread’

Great sound, looks like a fun song to play. Certainly a finger workout.

Idles - I’m scum

Three weeks ill now, some lung issues, can’t talk anymore … but I can post a cover…
The location is 50m from my house, on the way to the park. I pass it daily and always thought this is great for a punk video!

About my cover: still some f#cking timing issues. My cryptonite. But I love the song … can totally relate to the lyrics. It’s about me

  • Bass: heavily modified Harley Benton MV-4MSB short scale with EMG GZR PUs.
  • Effects: some light EQ, compression and a little chorus, so the original tone of the EMGs is still present.
  • Aaaaaaaaaaaaand: I used the Zoom AMS 24 for the first time to record stuff outside. Very happy!!! (Thanks, @howard )

Very well done Whying_Dutchman! I didn’t detect any timing issues. Nice place to record the cover!

Very very nice @sunDOG I was a big Jimmy Eat World fan back when they were popular. I would have defaulted to a pick which makes that all the more impressive. Those fingers were working, dude. Another one of there’s worth checking out and a big change of pace is Hear You Me which was about some folks they knew who died in a car crash here in Colorado.

Woot! We got the Dutchman on video! Great job dude! I happen to be wearing one of my Idles t-shirts (one of the ones from the Brutalism era) today. There weren’t too many timing issues that I heard… a few but considering you were doing that with fingers at that pace, you did fantastic. Those bends are a lot of fun, I should pick that one back up while I’m working on speed. Could use a touch more OD is the harshest critique I’ve got.

Yeah, sunDOG! That song (and the mini head banging) is show ready. Sounds great! If you were up there with the band replacing their bassist, I don’t think anyone in the audience would even realize it.

Well done, Whying_Dutchman! Sounds really clean and the outdoor venue is perfect for the song!

Thanks!

What is OD? If this is “overdose” - I have stopped using drugs a long time ago, sorry

Justin3 with the roadie on his shoulder! Love the part starting at :45…plucking fingers are flying during that song…nice work!

Over Drive. I think a grittier more overdriven sound on the bass (pretty sure whichever set of plug ins you’re using would have some by default) would help it fit in with the overall tone of the song.

I was thinking while I was just picking up stuff for dinner, I’d love to do Mother… but there are issues with posting a song like that here. Besides the language, they go at the Tories pretty good in that one.
