Post your covers! (2024)

Yeah I hadn’t planned for this outcome

At 20, I was positive I wouldn’t make it to 40 back when I thought 40 was old.

With me I knew even before the test, both times, just because of how my sinuses and throat felt. The first time I was extra sure because I was stuck on a train 3m from some moron unstoppably coughing and sneezing the entire way but deciding to commute to work anyway.

The train was packed and an express so no one could get off or even really move. Japanese people are really polite but I have never seen so many icy glares directed at one person.

I was quite sure about this too.

I used to live in Misawa, imo Japanese people are polite to a fault. The fact that homeboy got glared at is almost terrifying. I thought it would be one of those polite until they aren’t… then they really really aren’t kinds of things. I tried not to act too American as much as possible.

Oh yeah. The woman whose seat he was standing in front of was visibly furious. She knew she was toast, as did about 50 people around him (not exaggerating for those who haven’t been on one; a packed train in rush hour here is literally “crammed in so you can’t move” full.)

I’ve had Covid a few times and it sucked. I was fairly sick earlier this year. Doctors thought I was having kidney issues, as I could drink 6 L of water daily and still be parched. During the illness I completely lost my taste for coffee. I’ve been an espresso fanatic for years. No cream/sugar, just as black as my soul. To this day, I still don’t drink coffee. I wonder if it was also covid this last time.

Yeah - I couldn’t drink my beloved coffee for about three weeks now, in the sense of: I feel a strong dislike for “tasting” it. Very strange.
On the other hand I drink quite a lot of Coke (think: Coca Cola ^^) - which I didn’t do for quite a few years now (cause of me getting fat!).

Melanie C is perhaps my favourite female vocalist and songwriter, there is just something about her voice…

For this offering, I have added a baseline to a beautiful, acoustic version of Who I Am. This version of the song has a lot of space in it and no bass. So what you hear is my interpretation, how I felt a bass line. I kept it simple, so as not to overpower. The challenge was to hit the ‘one’, when there is no real drum part, so I was relying on the natural rhythm of the song. I was also experimenting with sliding into the root notes on the fretless Sire. After a number of takes, I decided that actually, ‘less is more’.

Melanie C - Who I Am (Acoustic)

As ever, comments and observations welcome

Great job, agree less is more here.
Perhaps a little more embelishment as you go through the tune (seems to be a thing folks do) or variation as you go along. Not a lot, just to bring some interest. Seems to be how most construct simple basslines.

Well done.
Very nice staccato playing.

The staccato style really sets the tone for this song…
