Sehr geil!
Don’t be “very horny” - post a cover. It’s your turn
This one was super fun!
Madagascar - I Like To Move It bass cover
My daughter came home from school with some “homework”, to watch Madagascar, the animated film. Apparently, they will be performing a version of this as a school play sometime this academic year… She also kept singing I Like To Move It, so we did!
To be honest, I’m glad we picked up on this version of the song! The bass in the Will.i.am version is freakin’ fantastic and waaaaaay beyond my 1 year bass skills
Having said that, this is a lesson in playing absolutely ‘in the pocket’. Any mistimed notes really jump out!
I experimented with the tone, trying synth type patches in the Ampero One, but none sat right in the mix, so I just went with two tracks of a super clean tone, that I added ‘stereo spread’ to in GarageBand. I also played around with the backing tracks, brightening up the vocals and drums, plus bringing the original synth part a bit further forward.
As you can see, my daughter joined me for the video. Such fun!
Well done @sunDOG ! That was fun to watch,
So good @sunDOG , that just injected some sunshine into my grey day. I love that your daughter is basically your Bez here, she should feature more often
And you sounded spot on with the beats to me
After my brief foray into dinner jazz the other week, I decided to return to my comfort zone and pay homage to the sounds of 90s indie rock
Who remembers the 90s? Well, if you do, and you were in the UK at the time, you may remember Ocean Colour Scene - they weren’t huge but they were taken under the wings of Noel Gallagher (Oasis) and Steven Weller (The Jam) and had a few hits. One of which was The Riverboat Song.
It was a tough choice between the precision and the Rickenbacker but in the end the Ricky just felt better for the track. I also chose to forgo the pick and try fingerstyle, because I have been told it brings you closer to the bass. Even so, it feels weird playing a Rick fingerstyle…
Once again the Line 6 does not disappoint - Vintage amp sim setting (Portaflex) with the smallest hint of compression.
So: The Riverboat Song- Ocean Colour Scene
Great job Ed and good choice with the Rick! That sounded awesome.
Thanks @JerryP !
Certainly do - was this the theme to TFI Friday too? Blast from the past. Sounded great
@Ed Nice combination of a riff that drifts through the song and ridin the root…nice line
Impossible not to smile there sunDOG, you are one rad dad
Well it worked, I absolutely loved the tone here, so nice and warm!
Time for a blues number…

Thanks for watching.
Sweeeet BB, sounds awesome, and that thing is a gorgeous beast
Really great cover Ed. Flawless!
Awesome groove Jerry, and great sound. Glad you are higher in the mix this time
Thanks!
You know - I think you’re right ! I remembered it from TV somewhere but couldn’t put my finger on it . I was never too keen on TFI and Chris Evans - he always gve me the impression he smelt of Loaded magazines and cheap lager…
Thanks @dlamson13 ! I usually play the Rick on the bridge pickup but thought I’d blend in the neck for this one. Gives it more body
Heh thanks
Yeah @401Blues it’s one of those songs where you kick yourself thinking “why didn’t I think of that”. Really simple and it works
