Post your covers! (2024)

I love the whole Shaboo Shoobah album. Excellent pick.

When you said octaves and chords I figured you were working on FAC 33

…except picking up my bass I see it’s 5ths, not octaves. Nevermind

Nope, it’s a Halloween-y song. I’m working on Bela Lugosi’s Dead. I was between that or Black No. 1.

Scorpions - Big City Nights

I love this tune and thought I’d take the chance to have a go with my very beginner pick skills  Fingers will always be my first choice but I guess it’s always good to add more tools to the arsenal. (I bought a variety pack of picks and my current fav is a small ‘max-grip’ one).

So it’s not quite as clean as I’d like and I missed some string skips which I find veeery tough with pick :grimacing: But it’s a start, and it’s still really fun to play.

You know it just popped into my head before I did the final record. I figured hey, I have shades on, and it just fit perfectly, so why not lol :joy: thanks for the great comments brother I appreciate it!

Sounds great! I only use picks, recovering guitarist here, haha  but it gets way easier with some practice! Love the Scorpions, so you get 10 points for that alone :facepunch::sunglasses:

Not heard that song for a looooong time, @TheMadBassist! Great playing, but do think we need to crowd fund you a decent recording set up!! :metal:

That’s a much better picking skills than me and I can see that you can go a full verse without dropping the pick so definitely a few levels above me,

Great covers, lots of moving parts and you made it look so effortless.

That was blurry excellent, @saroohoo, you look so relaxed playing!!

It’s a scary place, @Nebel! Not sure it’ll ever be my preferred approach to bass, but I figure I need to have a go!

Thanks you, @JerryP! The start of a new adventure…? :face_with_peeking_eye:

Thank you, @TheMadBassist, much appreciated!!

Thanks, @Al1885. Not really sure where my thumb should actually be as I skipped the relevant B2B module

I used a preset on my Ampero One - Rock Bass, I think. Of all the bass presets, it’s the one that gave the best slap sound. The Dingwall was set with the pickups in series and the EQ flat. Glad someone else is exploring a bit of INXS! I plan to drop another of their songs this coming Wednesday, but played finger-style :sunglasses:

Fantastic, @saroohoo!! I hope you like some of the others I have in the pipeline - my “backlog” of songs keeps growing…

An oldie but a goodie so they say :facepunch::sunglasses: I have an audio interface, just not sure how to hook all of that stuff up and do the video and everything. Seems like a daunting task to me. Really kind of unsure where to begin tbh.

Great work @JDDaniel

I’m curious @TheMadBassist most worship environments are quieter than a rock stage, did you find the playing was more technical? Like did you have to take more care about precision and controlling your tone since it’s quieter?

I’d eventually like to play for our team but I want a lot of experience in my cover band first. If I miss a note for a few drunks they won’t notice but I don’t want to mess up the church jam.

My dad played piano/keys for the church for over 30 years and would play funerals and not weddings for a similar reason. :joy:

@MattyD those are great questions! I look forward to hearing @TheMadBassist replies.

I’ve been watching our church worship team’s bassists (we don’t have many - usually one of the guitarists “takes one for the team” and plays bass that week) and as I listen for the bass in the mix (which is usually decently pronounced) they must be good (or hide it well!!) because I rarely hear a misstep.

This one wasn’t too crazy to learn but it is my favorite song of all time. I tend to listen to the album that this song is on and their Koi No Yokan album a lot in the fall and winter. Eventually I want to learn the rest of the songs from both albums.
