Not sure I wanna know if lo-fi is here regarding the video quality, the sound or my skills
(And at this point I’m too afraid to ask )
I liked the this one a lot. Maybe there was some pause after the quicker parts but it sounded good.
One thing that is helping me timing wise trying to match the drummer. I bought a looper pedal that can play drum loops too. It’s been so much nicer than a metronome because it sounds closer to the real thing. I like to slow the bpm down and really get synced up before playing at speed. Removing everything but the drum makes it a lot easier to hear.
I also think playing with an actual drummer is key. It’s easy to match a metronome but with a human I feel like you have to pay more attention. If you haven’t found people to play with stop being shy and DO IT!
I’m SUPER shy in person but if you go into it and are honest with them other folks will push you and you will get better super fast.
Great first cover totyasrac! Well done!
Indeed playing with a drummer is the best exercise I could imagine, I have joined (well, rather founded but whatever) a band, except for the summer break 2x a month we rehearse.
But while playing to music video / drummer I feel more and more confident when recording and listening to it well reveals the weaknesses. Even more when I record myself on a separate track (with Audacity through the Mighty plug) and listen to the “isolated” (pure) bass track. WOW that can be sad (but true), so long way to gain confidence. Until that I just enjoy and try not to overthink
I always think to myself, “how the heck do I shake my rookie sound!!!”
I noticed that playing along to a video with an existing bass track tends to hide my mistakes. It’s good at first to help me get an ear for the song but then I like taking it into Moises and dropping out the bass completely. I’ve also played with adding/subtracting other parts of the song to see how I do. Like “let’s play this with no drums, or vocalist”.
Lately I was practicing Rolling in the deep by Adele but when I got to practice I realized I was taking cues from the piano but we don’t have a piano in our band
Lovely tribute to your dad @sunDOG
@totyasrac Congrats on the first cover, you don’t need the disclaimers, I think you did a great job
Well I decided to record a cover today in the 15 minutes I had when wifey went to pick up the kids from school. One take with no warmup
I still haven’t fixed my “resting bass face” but at least there are some attempts to smile. I kept everything as with no edits except for some EQ since it sounded a little flabby
Very nice. I’ve always thought this is one of the saddest songs…
Nice tribute! May I ask - how do you memorize all these tunes so quickly? Or, are they just tunes you’ve always played. Impressive, either way.
I love Concrete Blonde and great job! I haven’t recorded anything in forever. I was meaning to get one done, but the Covid and flu shots I got yesterday have messed me up bad the past 24 hrs.
Thanks! Feel better mate!
Well that sure was fun, nice playing Jerry!
That was great Matty! And it was nice to hear that song again too. Is that a RAY24? How do you like it? I tested out one a few weeks ago and almost went home with it as an impulse buy (saving up for something else, was all that stopped me). I really liked the feel of the jazz style neck on it.
I love it. I had a sub 5 before it that I liked but the 5 was an impulse buy at $220. Fit and finish wise I like the look of this one and it plays great! I’m just not sure if it’s better than a standard sub component wise.
Hi, everyone
I used to be active here all the time in the past. Life happens, but I’m back to playing bass.
Anyways, here’s Red Tape by the Circle Jerks!
Been a bit since I posted a cover. This one’s in drop D with some compression, light reverb and set to B15 / 115 on the SGT.
Interpol - Leif Erikson
To be honest, your disclaimer made it sound so much worse than it actually is. The sound is fine, and I do love that song. Thanks for posting it
YES GOD IS GOOD! Thanks for reminding me.
