Black Night - Deep Purple

Need I say more? Classic rock and the perfect excuse to take the Thunderbird out for a run on a bank holiday Monday.

No processing apart for the Vintage sim on the Line 6 and some minor tweaking on the EQ, using the same preset as the Rickenbacker.

Mea culpa - I fudged the intro. it’s hard to synchronise up with the bass at the start of the song. It would be good if Reaper had a count-in function…

Never heard of this band. I dig the tune. Nice playing and tone!

Bitchin’ playin man! Re: Reaper…thats why I just record the instrument part and then add in a track of the song with the bass out and then align the two tracks before rendering.

The main bass riff for that song sounds an awful like a certain pop song with a female singer that I can’t remember the name of right now. [edit: Pink: So What is what I was thinking of]

Thanks @AndreaJayne ! I love my t-bird - I reckon it’s just about the best hard rock bass out there :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks @Old_WannaBe :slightly_smiling_face:

That’s not a bad idea but the problem is the bass cones in right at the start of the song so even if I just have the drum track going, I still have to react to the first note. Moises gives a count in but it doesn’t export with the track :frowning:

I think you’ll find Pink sounds like Deep Purple . Good point though - I wonder if that’s how she thought of the name…

@Ed love your energy and it sounded great

I have the same issues with songs where bass comes in straight away :weary:

I use logic so may be slightly different, but I download the moises smartmetronome as a seperate track then shift it to give me a count-in when needed
e.g.

It does! It’s in the metronome:

Great job on the cover. I forgot how good that bass line is.

It does have a click track. Here’s a quick video on that.

Oh that’s a good idea @g13dip I’ll have to give that a go :+1:

Oh my God you’re right! Is my face red @Billn . I really need to start reading the manual. I don’t see where you can set the tempo but it’s better than nothing :+1: :+1:

Oh is that how you set the tempo on the metronome @howard ?

@JerryP - The man with the answers ! Thanks muchly

Guys thanks for the tutorial - it’s why I come here

Among many other things yeah. Perhaps the biggest benefit to you is that the measure lines will line up correctly and you get a free “beat ruler”.

For actually producing music there are many more reasons that are even more important but in general, yes, setting the DAW tempo and time signature correctly is required for a lot of DAW functionality.

This will probably be my last heavy-ish song I share for the year as I tend to change genres with the seasons subconsciously lol. This one isn’t as heavy as the other ones I’ve been sharing, it was just in my head and I’m still working through scales in prep for my bass goals next year.

And I also just wanted to take it a bit easy because this weekend I start learning bassbuzz challenge number 51 as a bookend to 2024 since I started with Supermassive Black Hole :grimacing:
