I don’t know. I don’t really have any other points of context. I guess? I think I am struggling with it less than what most people describe. It depends a LOT on the song in question.
This song was particularly easy for me. Others not so much.
I find it’s easiest when like… the song has elements or patterns that I only really need attention on them to start but then can roll on autopilot once they’re going. And the bass line pieces and vocal line pieces are staggered from each other.
So like here, all the bass line changes happen at the start of a bar and then just play a rhythmic pattern on one note, and all of the vocal lines start in the middle of the bar and hold notes across the bars.
It’s like… I can’t multitask melodically, but I can often find ways to offload the work to my kinesthetic centers.
Well my version of…’cos last night I wanted to make some noise . It’s a bit rough in places as I basically decided how I was going to play it, then recorded it within an hour. But it’s freakin’ proto-punk, so who cares Oh, I also played the pink bass ‘cos that’s punk too
Ibanez EHB1000S in to the Ampero, then on into GarageBand
I have never heard of this band but dude does this song have a heavy groove, gotta love it. And of course nailed it (now that listened to the original I believe your cover is just more enjoyable)
Had to go watch it, that’s my G&L Kiloton. Monster sound out of that MFD pickup. I turned up the gain on my compressor so that was at about 10% volume. Even then, I had to set the mix at -14db with the rest of the track at -4db so that you could hear the vocals.
I used to request this one at the club I worked at when I was 21, eventually they just started playing it without my asking. I did this on my Yamaha BB300 with reverb and chorus. Timing was a bit off, especially at the beginning, the take I recorded for the video started out better tbh. Fair warning though, it’s a 9 minute long song.
The TMC version is one of my all time favorite covers, and I love the Modern English originals too (they used to play them back to back live like the TMC cover is.)
I spent a lot of time back then completely blasted out of my mind listening to the TMC version.
ME’s original Gathering Dust in particular is just an awesome song.
Super happy to see you cover this amazing pair of tunes!
BB sounds awesome there.
Don’t be hard on your timing, it’s a long intro to a 9 minute tune
All in all I dig this cover a lot. Really nice mixing and the effects on the bass are perfect.
BLUR - PARK LIFE https://youtu.be/vXgz3YjjjiA?si=-dUYLhlLksLwX_c3 Here’s a cool little tune that’s not difficult, but has a very great vibe to it. Hope you all have a great day! It’s cold over here in NC!! Brrrrrrr
EDDY GRANT - ELECTRIC AVENUE https://youtu.be/CEERGA_0uzI?si=G5LAPdIoK1QiA0dp. As promised, here is my 80’s entry for the thread today. This one was a pain as the little fills were all different, so that was a task keeping it straight haha and hey, if you know the backstory about this song, fist bumps to ya! I bet Duncan knows!
Are you referencing the Brixton Riots? If so, I kind’a remember them, plus the ‘copy cat’ unrest that took place in the town I grew up in… You’d hope that we had all become more tolerant now, more at peace with ourselves. Sadly, there still appear to be politicians who want to stoke racial tension in the UK, as well as elsewhere.
Both tooons you’ve posted are great tooons, BTW! I’ve both on YouTube
Yes! Eddy Grant wrote Electric Avenue in response to the riot that took place in Brixton, a district in South London, in 1981 . The title itself refers to a market street in the area, so called because it was the first to be lit by electricity. Oh very cool, thank you for the thumbs ups on both brother!
