I’m away for work for a few days, but travelled by plane, so no bass with me. I did try to knock one out this morning before I left, but I was rushing between ironing shirts and the taxi arriving. Under the pressure, I kept making mistakes, so gave up

Why don’t you get a Blackstar Travel Bass? It’s great!!!

I was looking (on line) at one of those. I’d have to sneak one past the household CEO/CFO/COO… do you have one?

Yes, very happy with it!

Ok, here’s a question, could you get it in a normal sized suitcase? Or would you need an XL suitcase? Thinking, European airlines probably wouldn’t let you take it in as hand luggage…

So, I could not get it in normal luggage without being afraid that the airline people would break it.
For that reason I put in some neck screws (from nectite.de) and just disassemble the neck when travelling. I think it would even fit in hand luggage then.
Together with the Positive Grid Spark Go it is a great combination for lonely hotel evenings on business trips…

It’s a great technique, really easy to apply. Try a little detuning next, gives you an easy control of “bigness”

As you saw the key (hand in hand with the stereo effect) is to make the tracks different in slight and subtle ways. Just makes the overall sound bigger for a given volume, without compression.

kinda incredible but I never did that.

Now that’s an interesting idea!

Just make sure that the string’s don’t bend too much. I have made a special bag out of neopren for the disassembled bass to protect it and have the strings not bend too much.
And I can say from experience, removing the strings and putting them back on every weekend will break them soon at the machine head/peg side…

I just use a plugin now that takes an input track and doubles it to stereo out and applies detuning and Haas/Phase Delay to one of them. But it’s easy to do without buying anything.

Sure, and I know about this technique for ages but for some reason I just never tried it. Thank you for reminding me to try this one day

Thank you! It’s via phone! I was going to ask folks how they record/mix. I don’t have an interface, but my amp has one built in. I’m just not sure what app to use.

I wondered that too! The action is on the lower side. I took it to the shop and got the neck/saddles adjusted again and that seems to have sorted it.
