Good job! I think the mix is fine. There’s a bunch of editing info out there here in the forum.
What happened at 1:20 with the Bb / A? Maybe you can make your life easier if you pick a specific fingering beforehand. It sounded fine, and a little as if you were picking fingers on the fly.
Im still in the learning stages intermediate player at best. I am doing exercises to correct my fingering. This was maybe my 3rd or 4th run-through on this.
Didn’t expect this to be my next cover, however yesterday this song came on my shuffle and I thought “this one sounds pretty easy!”. Learned it last night, practiced for a couple hours, and decided to record it this morning. You will notice me looking at my screen quite a bit in this one…since I don’t have it completely memorized yet I had to read the sound waves for a bit. It’s really rewarding to be able to hear something, learn it, and play it within a day - something that would have been impossible for me not too long ago…
Great job Ant! You are killing it!
Probably my favorite Cake song. From the movie Orange County for those that haven’t seen it. Reminds me of when my wife and I started dating.
appreciate that buddy, been really loving your drum & bass work. I was gonna say man all you need to do now is sing and play guitar and you’ll have a nice little one man band!
I love Cake so much, I’m working on a couple more of theirs right now. such a great band
Thanks @Paul_9207. Yes, we were down on the South Coast (of England), Swanage, to be precise. My wife was slightly annoyed that I took all my bass paraphernalia!
So, back when my wife and I were first married I bought a drum kit. She plays guitar and sings. For about a year, when I would get home from work we would jam for an hour. Almost every day. All original stuff she wrote and I would put a beat to it. It was so much fun. Then we had our first kid and that was pretty much that. Back to the present and I’ve been slowly trying to coax her into playing again. So I’ve been leaving some room for her, hopefully she will be doing a cover with me soon.
Great cover, @ant, I like the tone you dialled in, reminded me of Cake. I listened to cake way back on cassette tapes in my car (no, the car was that old, not me ). Keep it up!
The second of my The Swanage Sessions covers (aka, getting up at 6am and recording two songs, before the family were up, while having a weekend away at the English seaside in February - yes it was cold and rainy), this time the wonderful, original version of Tainted Love, composed by Ed Cobb, and originally recorded by Gloria Jones in 1964.
Played at a faster tempo than the Soft Cell’s version and in the key of Cm, rather than Gm, it’s a Northern Soul classic and very danceable!
Once again. I was playing the Steinberger on the neck pick up, focusing on tone and timing.
Gloria Jones - Tainted Love
For comparison, here’s the cover I did of the Soft Cell version a month or so ago:
