Post your covers! (2024)

Do the Coil version next!

Marc Almond is even in it. As Death!

Trivia: This video actually was exhibited in the MOMA for a while (might even still be) as an artpiece from the AIDS epidemic.

Or even more accessible:

I remember, there is even a Leather Strip version - but that would go too far!

I really like this version

Ah, and of course, there is always a Nouvelle Vague version. I looked it up in my CD collection, but they have it only live :frowning:

Novelle Vague usually has a version of anything, possibly even Duran Duran!

But I love “Too drunk to f#ck”:

Errrr, no.

The Inspiral Carpets, freak me, that’s Google!!

I’ve never heard of Nouvelle Vague…

Love their stuff. They have a great version of “I melt with you”, which now that I think of it, I need to put on the list!

Yes, not every cover they do works, but I love it when it does!

EDIT: @fennario - do you know the “Uncovered Queens Of The Stone Age” album by Olivier Libaux (one of the guys behind Nouvelle vague, that unfortunately died last year).

It is mind blowing in its own way. I quote WIkipedia: “the album was released in July 2013, warmly welcomed by Josh Homme, Queens Of The Stone Age, and many of their fans.”

No actually it’s awesome. One of the better covers actually.

Also, Marilyn Manson covered it too.

BOO! Hahaha.

I mean I knew you wouldn’t, it has no bassline and is like 60 BPM. The song is a work of art though; literally; it’s still in MoMA’s catalogue.

Coil was actually a side project of Sleazy (Throbbing Gristle) and John Balance (Psychic TV). Neither were favorite bands of mine - I disliked TG and was so so on Psychic TV. Some of their work was pretty foundational early industrial, though.

Marilyn Manson wants to be where (who?) Trent Reznor already was, long ago. Not a fan of him (Manson).
I liked Dita Von Teese though…

Pretty different artists really; Manson is more about image and I think Reznor is way way more talented (now or then). But YMMV.

Norwegian song today, easy one to practice downpicking.

Did Reznor not mentor Manson and even produce his first album? That’s the connection and his biggest mistake (ok, except doing most stuff after “The Downward Spiral”)…

Yeah. It’s a mixed bag for me. I liked “Towards The Infinite Beat”, and Mistress Mix/Paula P-Orridge was quite good in that context, but something about Genesis P. Orridge always put me off. Then I later learned that they were basically a terrible human being and it was probably instinctual on my part.

I prefer Chris & Cosey’s work, if we are focusing on ex-TG members

Maybe? Regardless I don’t think they are all that similar - Reznor is better at music, Manson better at self-promotion.
