Post your covers! (2025)

Heard this at the bar the other night… sounded like a good choice for a cover tune

The Fabulous Thunderbirds - Tuff Enuff (1986) bass cover

I haven’t heard that in a long time, thanks for the cover, I enjoyed it.

@Ant I find it very therapeutic to find a song that that you like, and not to hard to play. It doesn’t all have to be a learning experience. Nice of you to entertain the painters too
@JustinAndSheba That is a great song to bop along to, well played

“AND THE BASS GUITAR SOUNDS* LIKE A CARNIVAL AND MY INTERFACE SMELLS LIKE I SPILLED SOME BEER” - Billy Joel - “Piano Man” (probably)
No real reason for this song other than it’s a classic I used to listen to while playing the original “The Sims” on PC and the bass line is kinda cool.

Very well done BassyBunch! We don’t get many Billy Joel covers here.

That is a cool song. The chorus looks like it is fun to play. Well played, Justin (and Sheba)!

Nice one, BassyBunch! I like when the bass line goes to those higher notes.

Thanks, Dan! Great description of this type of song! I’ve been practicing this at slower speeds for a while and finally over Memorial Day weekend just said to myself LFG!

Pulp - Common People

Part of the fun of this song is the tempo change, roughly per the below:

Time (minutes) Approximate BPM
0:00 90
1:00 110
2:00 130
3:00 150
4:00 160

I went slightly overboard on the bass effects and the video. Enjoy!!

Duncan, that was brilliant. I love that song and you nailed it. Nice plectrum playing (I know that’s not your go to). Glad to see you get dressed up properly for it too. Pulp just seems like one of those bands that you should be wearing a suit for.

That was great, Duncan! As I wrote on your YT page, by the time you reached the last minute with that ascending tempo, you were flying. Also, I like that “world without bass” add-on at the end.

Thank you, @faydout! Yeah, the pick playing…I tried to play this one finger style. The start is certainly easier (for me), playing with fingers…but thr end comes increasingly challenging. I can do it, but that ending is far easier with the pick. Oh, and yes, I did feel the need :face_with_spiral_eyes:to dress for the part :sunglasses:

I find I it really interesting, @JohnF, listening to songs without the bass. It really does bring home the fact that most people don’t really know what we are doing, but take the bass away and they instantly understand!

Oh wow, @JohnF, I’m currently in a cafe and wanted to leap out of my seat and start dancing! That’s cool!!

Love this, @fennario! Lovely tone on that bass!!

Yes, you should do more covers @faydout . The bass sound lovely, great tone on this!!

Great playing, @JerryP! Another classic!!

Simple can be fantastic fun, @Ant, just focus on the groove!!

So cool, @JustinAndSheba, and I love seeing the Steinberger!!

That’s excellent, @BassyBunch, well played!!

Most excellent playing, @JohnF!

 I’m working on Chain of Flowers by the Cure and a shoegaze song by a band called Tamaryn that lets me dig in with my new Fuzz pedal. Big tone differences between the two. My super weird Meris reverb gets a little spotlight at the end of that one. I’m just taking a few days to nail them both since the last few covers I’ve done aren’t good by my standard (drunk for one and rushed for the other).

Thanks, Jerry! I’ve been listening to the album The Ballad of Sally Rose a lot lately, so a tune from that album is next on deck.

“Oh yeah, I can play some Dream Theater on bass”
proceeds to play THIS song
One of my first favorites from them, though.
First time strictly using Logic’s built-in amp designer and effects (usually use GuitarRig or Amplitube for amp/effects) and first time attempting to emulate fretless tone.

Fun fact: it’s statistically more likely that John Myung will give a full interview than a woman showing up to a Dream Theater meet-and-greet. Seriously though, I’ve been to a couple of their shows, and it’s always a great time. Probably the craziest thing is that the crowd can cheer in 15/16, which is actually the same as the male-to-female ratio.
Alright, alright. I’m done. Have a great night.

EDIT: upon listening to this in my car, the whole mix sounds “higher” than the original and the bass isn’t quite as prominent as it seemed when I was listening on my “DJ headphones” (I don’t have actual studio monitors) - might take a stab at editing and reupping. Would love any tips or tweaks y’all suspect may help this one out
