Post your covers! (2025)

Yes, just a cheap one from Amazon so I can work on my tan and play bass at the same time

And thank you

Awesome, that second picture looks great, how did you eliminate (not a ZZ Top reference lol) the blue glow?

Bahahaha, good one though. Not really sure how it happened. Just kept moving the black light (placed under me) around and kept shooting pics until it came out like that. Probably a fluke but I liked it so.

Thanks Duncan!

I wanted to shoot this outside, but the weather did not cooperate .

The background and bass have a great visual theme going along with your playing here!

@Billn Thank you Billn, I bought the background for this song, but it is a little small. It does look good though.

The Killers - Mr. Brightside

This was a suggestion by The Invertants vocalist and is on our list to have a go at. It’s a fantastic song with a great groove!!

Love this song, still listen to it all the time.

One comment on the mix. I have always hated the mix of this song (I mean by the Killers’ sound engineer, not you) because it is way overcompressed and EQ’d way too treble-biased and thin.

Unfortunately the stem separation made that worse (as I would expect it would, stem separation can really mangle a mix). Your added bass is mixed fine (if a bit high in the mix - perfectly legit for a cover) but the end effect is - well, you were totally let down by the original mix and master here.

What I am really looking forward to is your band’s full cover

Nice work on the bass, sounded great.

I am mostly calling this out because I don’t want anyone else to fault your mix here - the original has serious issues.

Yes, I’ve had this issue on a few songs of late, the separated tracks sounding pretty awful. Actually, the Oasis song I posted a coupe of days ago had the same problem. You end up trying all sorts to get it sound right, but it just doesn’t. With this one (Mr Brightside), I even doubled the stems, trying to make them sound fuller, then took the doubles out again as it sounded worse.

Yes, I’m looking forward ti having a go at it with the band. In fact the guitarist and I are likely to get together before the next rehearsal to work on how we create a ‘full’ live sound with just a bass and one guitar. ChatGPT actually had a few good suggestions!

Yeah, it’s tough to fix over compression and bad EQ on something that has already been mastered. Not a ton you can do.

Nice job Duncan, and a very summery backdrop of palm trees too.

Well said.

I just mentioned this song in another thread, and realised I hadn’t posted it here! So for your listening pleasure, and because it is quite apt as I’m now unemployed, here is Why Don’t You Get A Job? - The Offspring

Good job. And a nice added touch that you matched your nail polish to the bass.

Good work Jerry…I use to like playing this one until I discovered it is tuned at 451hz so you need to retune to play to the recorded version or you will be flat…barely ever play it now
