Post your covers! (2025)

Hey all, it’s been a while. Just got a cover done, in collaboration with a friend (guitar), his friend (keyboard) and a hired singer. Drums were programmed as we did not find a drummer that had the time during the vacations. but we did a cover of Smoke on the water, which was a lot of fun. I did not stick to the script, and improvised about 60% of my bass lines, but it turned out fairly good, I think.

I like the video overlay effect. What is it? Which video app?

Thank you, it did turn out rather nice. I will ask the guy who edited the video what he used. :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi,

I’m not a big Mark Hoppus fan, but this is my favorite song by him. I don’t know why, but it’s my favorite bass theme from him. I have a lot of memories related to this song/album, so I plan to record the whole album in the future!

Thank you, @sunDOG !

That’s very good, @Nebel! The vocalist has a great voice!

It’s interesting that you couldn’t find a drummer. There’s nothing like a set of live drums being played with passion!!

Like Bamm-Bamm on the drums and Pebbles on a Mark Sandman 2-string bass! :guitar: :sunglasses:

Thanks mate. And yeah, dude has a serious set of lungs on him. it’s vacation time here in Luxembourg and many people are away, but yeah, live drums just hit differently.

Great work @sunDOG - always figured you for an Oasis man!

I can’t figure out how that works - whenever I tried adjusting the pitch of a track on Reaper, the vocals always change to Barry White or Alvin and the Chipmunks.

Aha… so… there’s no shortage of strings. Hmm…

Very impressive @Nebel - good to see Dr Avalanche is still doing session work on the drums

Ahahaha. I wonder what Eldritch is using for Dr Avalanche these days.

Anyway, drum machines are the way to go - they don’t show up late and then take an hour to set up.

And now for… possibly… the most “extra” video I’ve ever made. A relatively simple song that took way to long to track and mix…

… and then even longer to figure out keyframing color grading and effects within the video… BUT, IT WAS FUN AND THAT’S WHAT COUNTS RIGHT?
Also, first time using generative AI videos for overlays, felt like a cool concept - I’m sure it’s been done, but it felt like a push for me.

Bass was a pain to isolate because of all the high-register playing in the intro, so I wound up taking a Moises AI “bassless” track (which kept the high notes) and EQ’d those out as best I could, and then HPF’d everything lower than 500 in the original. You can definitely hear some of the original bass poking through if you listen hard enough, but I had to remind myself that I’m not (technically) being paid for this and sometimes “good enough” is just fine. Also ran into some problems with compression during the loud-energetic chorus, worked real hard to get rid of that “in-and-out” thing I’ve had going on some tracks with wild dynamics.

I always go for good enough. Great job on this song. I can’t believe I haven’t covered a song from this album.

Nicely done, although I think you were short changed on the amount of screen time you got…normal for bassists I guess
Good looking video all the same!

Not a song (or band) I’m familiar with, but your bass playing sounded good. And that is a nice looking bass too

Absolutely. If you’re not having fun (or at least look like you are), you’re doing it wrong!
Nice subtle effects on the video, and the bass sounded fine to my untrained ear
