Post your covers! (2025)

I love the DTFs and have them on several basses, including their short scale thru-body set for the MIA thru-body only Fender Mustang. They are slightly thinner gauge but sound great and are easy to play. They fit perfectly on my Schecter Banshee.

What mic do you use? I use a Sennheiser e609. It was designed to sit flush to the grill cloth. Can be used without a mic stand. I’d have bought the newer e906, but it wasn’t out yet. They come with a mic holder for purists, but I just run the cable under the handle and hang the mic.

Sennheiser e906 $200

Half the price, but much more than half as good.

Nice cover of a great song Jerry…I thought the tone was very upright like (the EBS probably contributed to this)…only downside for me was the tone balance seemed a bit light on the low end for upright style (if thats what you were going for)

Foo Fighter Friday! ( I don’t know how long I can keep this up though  )

Sweetwater had these on sale around the Holidays so I picked them up. I used the 991 with a stand about two inches from the center of the speaker. According to the documentaion, the 991 is to be used for instruments and the 990 for vocal.

Thanks g13dip! I wasn’t really going for anything in particular, I was just happy with the way it sounded.

Wow! Gotta say that was my favorite “Andrea Plays Bass” cover that you’ve done (and I think I’ve seen a few dozen). Great song choice…that rocked!

The e609 looks like a much better choice for bass and the e906 looks not very suitable to me.

E609:

Looks like you’re probably getting a bass boost from proximity effect hanging right on front of the amp as well based on the .5 vs 1 cm charts.

E906:

It starts rolling off at ~200 Hz vs the 85 Hz of the e609 at .5 cm. Maybe proximity effect would rescue it?

The MD421 is another traditional bass microphone option worth comparison of frequency response charts

Thank you John. It took a lot of time to get the tab correct. I seperated the bass in Moises to listen to and make sure I was playing it as well as possible. And there are a few cheeky little octave dabs in there too, which add to the whole fun experience and sound.
I really enjoyed this one myself, and by the time I finished it, I loved the song even more! :star_struck:

Thanks for this. Interesting about the proximity bass boost. I’ll remove the e906 from my wish list. Sometimes, it’s better to be lucky. :+1:

It looks really nice for guitar with the options for how pronounced the 4-5 khz peak is! Definitely looks like they’re aiming squarely at guitar range though

And yet I find, and yet I find… repeating in my head… if I can’t be my own, I’d feel better dead

Not much to say for this one, just matches the brooding vibe lately. Mix kinda sucks here, it sounds like I keep getting buried in the kick drum at certain points but alas…

That’s a really boomy kick. you sound great here. I would have just turned the music down a little to let the bass sit out in front.

I never looked up the lyrics to this one is it, “stubbed my scrotum” or “sell my scrotum”?

Either way, great cover. I long to be able to play all the parts on a song. You are like Prince!

So I recorded 2 covers tonight. I’m in a “lo-fi” cover phase. Straight from moises and the iPad to you!

First is Inside Out by Eve Six

Second is a little cover of Amazing Grace. I’m no Victor Wooten but for something I started noodling around with yesterday it was a lot of fun.

Yep, so much of Oasis is influenced by The Beatles

Or just tune the bloody guitar and make sure it’s intonated correctly

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Chipmunks are go!!

I often practice songs in an alternate key for the band to help the singer. You can shift key in Moises, but the results are sometimes quite funny :winking_face_with_tongue:

Thank you, Jerry!!

We’ve decamped for the week - school hols, daughter bored, change of scene (me still working though) - but the house we are staying in is rather small, so practice has had to be outside!

Well played, @justarookie! I like that pick tone!!

Well played, @BassyBunch. Some of the higher register stuff is great, isn’t it? Oh, and getting creative with the video is cool!

Another master class, @Paul_9207! Well done!!!

Cool song, @g13dip, and well played!! I think the tone sounded cool!!

Love it, @JohnF! I’m sitting outside on a patio at the moment catching up on these covers and this song sounds so good! :+1:

Play what makes you happy, @JerryP! That’s a great bass line and well played! I like the tone, but (and it’s a minor but), I assume the original would have been played on an upright, so more muffled? I’ve struggled with this at times, trying to emulate the tone on these very old songs. Foam under the bridge and rolling off the highs can help.

They have plenty of songs in their back catalogue . Well played Andrea!!

Well played, @BassyBunch. One thing you could do is add a little dirt to the bass. This often allows it to sit better in the mix.

Well played, @MattyD! Sounds surprising good for a lo-fi recording!

Very good!! One you get going, just needs a punk-inspired drum track, crashing cymbals and heavily distorted guitar, and you’d be in my good graces (see what I did there!)

No offense to @sunDOG but I actually skipped it because Oasis

Hey that wasn’t bad @sunDOG - kind of buskery!

Reminds me of that news story when a library in Essex was burgled - apparently there was a book lack in Ongar
