Avril Lavigne - Basket Case (Green Day)

A cover of a cover, why not?

We want to play Green Day’s Basket Case, but it is in the bearing key for our vocalist. After a bit of hunting, we found Avril Lavigne’s live version of the song to use as the basis of our version. Bass comes in at 49 seconds, so nearly a minute of me not doing a lot

Small mistake towards the end, but hey, this is punk’ish, so who give a … :winking_face_with_tongue:

Thanks @sunDOG !!! Any time I find myself wanting a new bass I just make a new video with one I’ve already got and color grade it so that it looks different

Nice one, Duncan! As I wrote on YT, I think this one will be a crowd pleaser. I would be tempted to add some big slide at the end (can’t let the guitarist have all the fun! ).

How long have you been playing?

@Rob5589 Thanks! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: I picked the bass just before the pandemic (starting from scratch) but wasn’t really into playing songs, until earlier this year, after I watched a couple of Josh’s videos where he talks about this. I didn’t think I’d enjoy it, but I find it fun, actually. Now trying to build my bass repertoire.

Guys I have to confess that the Ricky and I have been going through a bit of a troubled patch recently. It sounds amazing on the amp, looks great and feels great to play but it really is a pain in the butt to record. I’ll admit we have had some tiffs about this, so I’ve decided to try and rekindle the magic by making November my Ricky month.

But what to play? Not Motorhead again…. Fortunately the YouTube algorithm has been sending me down the 80s rabbit hole with the amazing Dexy’s Midnight Runners. For those of you who may be unfamiliar, they were an eight piece that blended Northern soul with new wave and Irish fiddly music to earn themselves a couple of number ones. Unfortunately they then had a massive fight with the Singer Kevin Rowland and broke up.

Anyway I present one of their hits - Geno. I don’t have a clue what it was about but ir sounds good.

Production was just the Rickenbacker with some compression to boost the signal.

Gino is about Geno Washington (and the Ran Jam) band. It’s small my favourite Dexy’s song off an incredible album. It also brings back memories for me. Dexy’s played the Lafayette, Wolverhampton around the time this was released. I grew up in Wolverhampton… Sadly, I was too young to have seen them, but…the nightclub was part owned by a man called Tony Perry, who lived at #32, we lived at #10. Tony was also a music promoter and band manager. His daughter is Suzi Perry, ex of the Gadget Show, F1 coverage on the BBC, and Superbikes coverage. Suzi was best mates with my sister. I remember my sister, Suzi and her brother, Stuart all hanging it at the nightclub in school holidays (day time, not evenings), annoying their father

On Geno Washington, I actually saw him live. He played one of the formals at the Halls of Residence I lived in, while at university.

Pepper - Stormtrooper

Probably punched a little above my weight on this one. Only a few recording anxiety whoopsies, though.
