@sunDOG Very nice as always! I noticed your drummer was singing back vocals. I’m always impressed when a drummer or bassist can play and sing without it messing up the rhythm. It can’t be easy!
@JohnF This was beautiful, John! She has a beautiful melodic voice. Such a nice song.
Very nice! I like this bass line, but I can’t play it myself because the lyrics become an ear worm to me, then it keeps playing in my mind. But it is a classic! Great job with the tone, it worked very well.
@JohnF Well played! I haven’t heard this song for ages. Very nice!
@sunDOG You played it very well. It doesn’t look easy, it is fast and I understand what you mean. It’s a great song.
Not having much time to myself this week, I thought I would finally get a ‘simple’ cover out the way I’d been meaning to do for a while - Proud mary (cover) by the Acid drinkers.
The bassline isn’t too hard - it’s what I call a “right hand song” because it’s basically keeping a rhythm. However, you do have to coordinate the hammer on to get the most out of it
So - I guessed the original was played on a five string, and not having a fiver, I reached for my trusty T-bird and tuned down to B standard. Unfortunately this sounded like crap, so I played up an octave (doubling the rhythm guitar basically), dialled down the rhythm guitar track (thanks Moises!) and kept the original bass track for the bottom end. I kept the tuning for the extra grit. Further grit was added by the ‘Modern’ sim on the Line6 POD express. I tell you: for me, this is some pretty Brian Eno-level production work!
Still, I’m pretty happy with the result, and it’s great fun to play after a stressful week
The Invertants - Get Back (Reprise) and Bohemian Like You (live)
The Invertants played live yesterday at a work Christmas Party, very corporate
This is short section from our set, a reprise of Get Back (The Beatles), which we’d played earlier, then straight into Bohemian Like You (The Dandy Warhols).
We struggled a little bit with the bass in the mix a bit. We took a DI from the bass amp, plus had the amp as a stage monitor, I found it hard to hear myself. Notwithstanding, it was excellent fun!
Playing the Dingwall. Our guitarist was in his PRS SE.
Oh, and I might have persuaded the band that sequinned jackets are the way forward!
Well done, SunDog. You guys sound good. And, I for one, am a fan of the sequined jackets either matching or different colors Power Ranger style. It looks like you’re having fun and puttin’ on a show. Very rock and roll.
Thank ya sir! Yes same here, thought it was only done by Metallica for the longest time. Went to look up some Thin Lizzy on YouTube and seen it. This was years ago. Metallica’s version is still the best to me.
Just for the record - Metallica’s version is on Garage Inc. You know, their covers album. So (if you had already known that), you should have known they didn’t write it.
Been away for a while, haven’t been playing much either these last few months. Been struggling to find the motivation to pick up the bass. Spent the last two days learning this one though…doesn’t seem to really be a popular song, not much out there in the way of tabs or covers. Really busy song and it’s at its best as it starts to fade out. Don’t have the patience to record the video, gonna spend some time catching up on the thread…450 posts to go
Edit: Had the patience to record the video…tabs got a little out of sync towards the end, I must have missed a rest or accidentally made a quarter note an eighth note, definitely don’t have the patience to fix and rewrite it though. Close enough!
