The new bass sounds great…super rich tone! That song was cool…I like it…very chill.
Great song choice…really enjoyed listening to that one. I like how the guitar echoes the bass in parts in the first half.
Ha, that’s cool @JerryP! Love the colour of the bass too!!
That’s funky, @JustinAndSheba! Love it!
Don’t know this song, @JohnF. Super mellow, love it!
Gosh, that’s surprisingly mellow for you, @BumbleJazz! Cool!
More mellowness!! Great playing, @faydout! Love the fact that you’re up the fretboard!
Duran Duran - Hold Me bass cover
One of my 2025 goals was to buy a p-bass, another was to learn some John Taylor / Duran Duran bass lines. In this video, I combine the two.
I bought a second hand Squier Classic Vibe 50s p bass, while away on business this week (blame Facebook Marketplace!!) and bashed out a cover of (well, my interpretation of) John Taylor’s bass line for the 1986 song, Hold Me. I’ve always liked the vibe of this song, it’s been on my list for a while.
Comments, as ever, most welcome!
Squier Classic Vibe 50s p bass into the Ampero, then on into GarageBand.
“The Hotel Room Sessions” sounds like it might be the title to your first album! That sounded great…interesting bass line…I love the little octave accents and the bridge was different than what I expected. Very cool cover!
Left you a comment on YT.
Your note lengths are so dialed in, great feel, outstanding Jerry!
Thank you, I like the fact that the bass drives the melody through most of the song. Similar to the way that it does in Joy Division’s music. That’s been one of my favorites of theirs for 25+ years. It was a request from my younger daughter. Although she knows the Cure inside and out because of me playing them all the time when she was little, Placebo is the one that stuck with her now that she’s grown.
Thank you. The tab I found online had me playing most of it further down on G. By moving up, it turned into a nice simple box pattern. I like playing up there anyway. It also had me in standard F but that’s just shifting everything one fret up. I had to change one note in the outro that was the open D# but it’s such a quick little note that it wasn’t even noticeable.
Save Yourself - Sharon Van Etten
I have been a bit obsessed with this song for a couple weeks. This is the live version recorded at KEXP radio in 2010. It’s a stripped down version with just Sharon Van Etten on the electric guitar, the bassist and the drummer. A lot of fun to play.
Thank you dlamson13! I try to follow the tab as written (not that the tabs are always correct).
Not gonna lie… for the briefest of seconds … I thought you had superimposed yourself into the original video I loved stripped back tunes … you can really hear whats going on in there.
Great job John! Love it
Nice one John…. Mellow…
Nice!! Ibanez makes a nice 5 string…. I picked one up a new weeks ago and love it!!
Don’t know the group or the song but it sounded great…. Nice job!
Great song, great bass, great tone, and super cool job on the lower end Duncan!!…
It is somewhat…. mesmerizing….??…. Great job John…
Don’t put it past me to try to insert me into Mazzy Star or Crazy Horse in a video one of these days (if I get tech savvy enough)! Yeah, I was a fan of the studio version of this song, but when I heard this stripped down version, I immediately knew I wanted to play it. Plus in the studio version, she’s got back-up vocals, so it was really interesting to hear the way she sang that in this version.
Yes, there’s something about the way she sings the second verse and the chorus in that version that brings me back. Thanks for listening to both of my weekend songs!
Stockholm Syndrome by Muse
not the craziest most difficult thing but a fun song as I get used to the art of audio/video recording
DAI → Logic Pro X/ Guitar Rig 7 → Final Cut Pro → Your screen
I beg to differ … some serious speed chops on that plucking hand man… and endurance to maintain it. Hella great job! Love it!
Another fine cover @BumbleJazz ! Ibanez 5-string?
Maybe be careful about your posture when playing through - you’ll thank me when you get to 50
