Nice job. Such a…Creamy…sound.

That sounded great  My dad often used to play this in the car when I was young, so it brings back nostalgic memories when I hear it.

Are you a professional @sunDOG? Because you sound like a professional!

And thanks for posting your setup. It is helpful for a noob like me to learn what people are doing behind the scenes.

Aha! Both sound like pretty impressive pieces of kit. I sometimes wonder about getting a more modern bass with all this tone shaping… I kind of miss my old Ibanez now and again - it was so versatile and easy to play…

Figured it was time to bust out the acoustic/electric…

Very nice. If I close my eyes it has the feel of an upright bass :+1:

Thanks @Ed! It’s was fun playing this on the fretless!

Thanks @JohnF, I really enjoyed the little fretless slides!

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:, @Vader!

Happy to be of service, @saroohoo! It’s funny how music can be so evocative, isn’t it?

I started playing Sept ‘23., I’d never picked up a bass before that. The B2B course is great!! I’m actually a management consultant :rofl::rofl:

There’s a few folks here who could be - they are legit better than some touring bands I have known. @sunDOG, @Paul_9207 and @Barney are good examples - all could hold down a touring band at this point (though they may not think so).

You guys need to stop covering and move on to original music (much harder though, at least for me!)

@Al1885 could be a pro but he’s more like a museum curator that’s secretly also a bass BAMF. He’s Bass Batman. @John_E too.

Don’t you recognize him? It’s the guy from A-ha!

Oh yeah, fretless for the win!..but I might be biased

Speaking for myself, @howard, I think I’m a loooooong way off that… ok, if the songs are fairly simple, I’m fine, but I do make mistakes. That said, I am getting frustrated with the slow progress of the cover band; primarily one member, who doesn’t seem to put the time in to learn their part.

Regarding covers vs originals, the covers are pushing me as a bassist. I’ve written elsewhere that for reasonable simple stuff, I can now get on top of the bass line pretty quickly. Practice is then about playing it right, right the way through. Harder songs take more time and then there the stuff that just scares me, even though I want to have a go… Originals would be of a completely different magnitude of difficulty…not only making a baseline sound good, but against what chord progression, what melody, what words, exc. I probably should have a go at something….!!

It is, trust me, for the reasons you mentioned and more

But your last sentence there - yes that’s the spirit!

Kind to say that, but I’m happy to be in a bar band and not totally suck. Realistically that’s where I’m going to peak and I’m very ok with that. :sunglasses:

Very kind of you to say Howard. I have been trying to broaden my horiozons as far as covers go and hopefully can write some originals within a year, hopefully with the help of my wife. Again, I really appreciate the kind words.

I thought he was Sting!
@JohnF You really are the king of relaxing covers John, well played.

@sunDOG That sounded great on the fretless, and a classic Cream song.

@JustinAndSheba I’m trying not to get GASsy for an acoustic bass after that, it sounded spot on. While I was in Carlisle on Tuesday I popped in an independent music shop, and I did have a little look at a bass ukulele. Travel size bass!

Love your cover and love me some Tommy Shaw vocals!

“Take My Breath Away” by Berlin
I’ve decided that my ultimate “rhyme and reason” at this juncture is alternation between “guilty pleasure jams” and heavier stuff that is typically more befitting of my musical tastes, so here’s a piece of work featuring one of the most legendary key changes in modern music.
Also, side bar regarding video editing - this was my first attempt at messing with LUTs and color wheels in Final Cut Pro- wanted to really nail that “cool 80s movie” vibe despite filming in an ambulance bay.

It’s always good to play something outside of your normal listening tastes.
Good job on the cover, and I’m glad you explained why it looked like you were in a huge shed!

Nice one, BassyBunch! That movie is almost 40 years old…where does the time go?
