Thanks you, @AndreaJayne! Rest assured, more somber shires will reappear
Thanks, Travis!!

Thanks, Travis!!
Excellent, @Vader! I like the double hits on the octave!
@Vader Your cover of Lullaby was excellent. I checked your YT channel. No videos. That suggests that they are all posted as Private. Is that to avoid copyright strikes?
Blimey, the miners strike! Them were the days
A little bit of Flying Pickets trivia for you, Brian Hubbard used to drink in the pub next door to my uni halls of residence. His Gold disk for Only You was behind the bar.
They are all currently set to unlisted. Not because of copyright concerns, since it checks that before you set the visibility, but because I’m a little paranoid about just any rando finding my vids.
I wish there was a visibility level between “public” and “unlisted” - something like being able to set the channel as unlisted, but the videos as “public” if you have the link to the channel.
Then again, I was also thinking about changing the visibility to public on them anyway. In the mean time, they are all linked from my video index post.
Sly and the Family Stone - Everyday People
I have to apologise the Travis for this one, as he posted the song a few days ago!
In these days of political tension and, sadly, war, we need to remember that we’re all just brothers and sisters. Plus, riding the G for an entire song was too fun to pass up
Recorded and video shot in a rather underwhelming AirB&B. While it looks like I’m playing with a pick, I’m not. I’m actually palm-muting the strings and playing with the side of my index finger. I wanted that muted tone and I found this was the best way to rhythmically chug.
Steinberger XT-2 bass into the Hotone Ampero, then on into GarageBand. I had listed the Steinberger for sale, but have now deleted the listing. The bass sounds so good and is fantastic for travel! Keeping it!!
Great job Duncan!
I’ve been really behind in posting any covers lately. Here’s two songs we did at an open mic last week. Exes and Ohs by Elle King. We also did Your Love by the Outfield but I think you have seen me play that twice already so…
I also posted links to the first 2 sets of my first show on my user videos page. My band’s old bassist and I split the show since it was his last so there’s about 1 1/2 sets of me playing. I’m hidden back in the corner but I’m also too big to miss so enjoy…
And if anyone can find me the post your gigs thread I’d be happy to put the links up there too.
Awesome! Big money bass slides + great band name, looks like a fun time
Thanks man!
Ride that G, Duncan! Cool song and well played!
Well done, Vader! You look comfortable and I like the visual at the end!
That looks like a blast, MattyD! I’ve seen you around the forum, but this is the first time I’ve seen you play. You sounded great! The crowd sounded cool and supportive. Looks like you’ve found a good environment to get this experience. And there’s nothing like a big slide in the middle of a song to get comfortable.
That’s so awesome! Y’all sound great!
And Spring City? I lived a hop, skip, and jump from there by Marsh Creek - though many moons ago.
There’s like 3 slides in that one and even though I played it perfectly at our first show I missed the first slide completely
That stage is hard because while the bass amp is behind me I really can’t hear myself playing there. They have monitors but we don’t get a lot of sound check time and we always forget to ask them to turn them up. My guitarist has the same problem.
The funniest part of that night is there was an original band on a few acts before us and one of them loudly remarked, “Now that’s some real music!”. I don’t think I can receive a better compliment.
In a Room full of other musicians that’s quite a praise, but probably not the thing to say in a room of talented musicians
Sounds like you’re learning a lot about playing live and the sound set-up and having to adapt. Very cool experience and that’s great to hear from an original band that they’re digging your music. Once I improve some more, I’d love to find something like that.
I gotta say for people looking for bands or bands looking for gigs, the open mic nights have been VERY fruitful. Our next gig came from a guy who saw us the first time here and the band that liked us this time wants us to get in on a show with them. It’s all about relationships and having good vibes.
Sorry for the break - loads to do this month! I thought I would venture away from classic rock into pastures new and try something from a musical (Hamilton?). I’m not sure what it’s about but I think Stewie from Family Guy is singing.
Anyway this was a bit tougher for me to learn (lots of pauses and changes in feel) so I cheated and tried to follow the tab on the screen. Hence some fluffs and (minor) post-recording edits but I’m fairly happy with the result
As always, the hero of the story is the Hofner running through the Line 6 (Vintage Sim). I would never say that I have a favourite bass, but… well…
Hey, everyone! Finally got an upgrade in the form of an audio interface and Ableton. Here is my first whole recording combined with video.
The cover is of “Boca Llena” by Y La Bamba. Heard this indie band by chance and immediately loved the bass line.
I ran my Aerodyne Jazz through a compressor and Sansamp Bass Driver into the Focusrite interface. A couple mistakes for sure but it was fun!
Excellent playing! You’re really holding it down up there.
Dude, you sound amazing! Great tone and articulation. You nailed it!
