Awesome man!
No apologies necessary brother!! I enjoyed watching you cover it as well! Now if you copy my cover of Rio, we may have issues haha that will prolly never happen as I don’t have the time to invest in that monster!!! Great job
ZZ TOP - STAGES https://youtu.be/zJcvwkTbumw?si=5z5MafL8PDRgS-Ay I’m back filling in for my man Dusty Hill once again. This song comes from the awesome Afterburner album which released in 1985, I was just shy of turning 16. This album remains my all time favorite of theirs. I guess due to my age haha anyway, hope you enjoy my cover of this great song by that little ole band from Texas!
Nice job and great album! I think I wore my cassette tape out. Yep, I’m that old😁
Same lol thanks
Great playing! Those strings look awesome on that bass.
Great playing @TheMadBassist!
As someone commented on your channel, I also haven’t heard that song in a long time.
The last live concert I attended was ZZ Top performing at the 2017 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, just 4 years before the passing of Dusty Hill.
Thank you so much! Yea I love these drneon strings. The glow in the dark feature is pretty dope
Thank ya, I appreciate that! Sadly, I never saw live. My son and I had tickets one year but Frank got sick and they cancelled out. Timing never was right after that. Bummer, but sure glad I have cds to listen to and videos to see them. One of my top ten bands! Have loved them since Eliminator came out, then started back tracking on their catalog. Fantastic band
Mazzy Star - Hair and Skin
Alright…let’s kick off this weekend! Prior to joining Mazzy Star as their drummer, Keith Mitchell was with the group Green on Red who wrote this song. Mitchell must have brought this song over to Mazzy Star who started playing it live in the early 90’s and it ended up on the b-side on the single of Flowers in December (off their third album).
Love it brother!
@Ed Sorry dude, I thought I’d already replied to this, but must have just been on YT! Great playing, the style of these songs can catch you out, but you did a fine job
@beaurapp Great job, I’ve not heard it before, but can hear why you love the bassline.
@TheMadBassist Nice one Travis, more ZZ Top. I never got around to seeing them either, wish I had.
@JohnF Wow, I didn’t realise Mazzy Star was around back then, i never thought to look! Top cover as always
Thank you, @JerryP!!
Thank you, @JohnF!
Thanks, Travis!! I think we’re a little away from battling over Rio!
Sounding GOOD, @MattyD!! I hope you had a blast!!
Sounded great, @Ed! I like the fact that you’ve tried something a bit different! And succeeded!!
That sounded great, @beaurapp! Nice moving around the fretboard!
Ah, more ZZ Top!! Most excellent, Travis!!
I like this, @JohnF! The bass sounded great!!
Billie Eilish - Lunch
This song has a great bass line!
To get the tone I wanted, I actually made 4 separate recordings, 2 with just compressor and 2 with the octaver, each pair panned slightly left and right. The ‘straight’ lines play throughout, but the more processed ones come in after the first ‘cycle’, and are also cut towards the end.
We’ve been on a canal boating holiday. I recorded the line and shot video on the boat, moored at Gas Street Basin, Birmingham. I actually shot the video at 6:30am, standing in the bow and it was blurry freezing!
Steinberger XT-2 bass into the Hotone Ampero, then on into GarageBand.
Great job! You go to great lengths to do your videos sometimes, and that’s admirable in itself Duncan. Truly. Enjoyed this
Thanks brother! Can’t get enough ZZ Top IMO, and let’s set a date for the Rio battle in August of 2028. That’s more than three years away. Haha
Thank you Andrea!!
Sounded great and I love the Gas Street Basin backdrop! Definitely worth braving the cold for those takes! THIS is dedication to the craft.
Thank you @TheMadBassist, @AndreaJayne and @sunDOG for the feedback on “Hair and Skin”. I appreciate it!
