Andrea, I just threw the gauntlet down!!
My dad was a huge fan of hers as well. Great job brother! Loved it
just go find a band dude… all your covers are just so good.
Thanks, Travis! Yeah, first time I heard the song Tulsa Queen, I was hit by the thunderbolt. Still think that is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard.
I’ve been working way too much lately, and not spending nearly enough time on bass. Much of that time has been spent learning to play the 6-string, which means thinks like being far more intentional about muting and fighting the muscle memory of only ever playing 34" fixed scale basses. I really like how the low B string feels and sounds, though. There have been moments of clarity, but I’m definitely in the “still learning how to play this thing” camp.
Audioslave - I am the Highway
Sounds great. Really like this bass line.
@damonjc Kings of Leon - Arizona - Dude, very well done. Well executed.
@TheMadBassist Linkin Park - Up From the Bottom - Great job Travis. Left you a comment on YT.
@JohnF Emmylou Harris - Tougher Than the Rest - An oldtime favorite of mine nicely done John!
@fennario - Audioslave - I am the Highway - Not familiar with the song, but it sounded great. Nice job!
Edit to add, one day I’m going to be as crisp, clean, and on point as y’all and everyone who posts here.
I’ll look back on these videos and see how far I’ve come.
Glad it worked out, and stoked to see it in full cover vid status. Congrats! Sound good!!
That sounded great! Yeah, that note (C?) on the low B-string to start the chorus is like a gong…sounds awesome. Super clean cover…I don’t think I’d recognize the difference from listening to the original.
Thanks, Jerry! When I get a little more advanced, I’ll give Luxury Liner a go.
Thanks again, Gio! I imagine if I did those double-slurs both with my pinky it would have sounded quite awkward. First time I asked a technique/transcription question in the Forum, so I appreciate the assistance!
Thank you brother J !
Fantastic John, love the slides and phrasing!
She owns every song she covers, no one will sing it better.
Thanks John! I appreciate the nudge to step out of the bunker for once
Thanks @JerryP !
Thanks @JohnF Yeah, standard tuning so that low note is a C. I agree, could just listen to that note over and over
You killed that one @JustinAndSheba !!
First, Cinderalla! Until listening to you play I completely forgot them. That was some 40 years ago I listened to them.
Second, what smooth, flawless playing! You genuinely had me smiling. I thoroughly enjoyed that.
Here is my 3rd submission - White Zombie Thunder Kiss '65
And a quick question - what is the easiest method to record video? My issue with recording in general is it never is my best play. Like performance anxiety or something. The minute I hit record I’m going to make mistakes. And now the syncing of video. What do y’all do?
Thanks, Dan! I really appreciate it!
Well played, Justin! It’s been since the peak of the Mtv days since I’ve heard this band. Really solid playing!
That kicked ass! Killer song! Nice job with those sudden stops and starts. I remember this music video with the bassist absolutely jamming with her hair flying all over the place. Really nice job on this one. To answer your other question, I record video on iphone and record my bass through a DAI into Garageband. Then I dump the Garageband file and the iphone video into iMovie and sync it. If you use iMovie, it’s pretty easy to sync your playing in the video with the audio if you use the slider under the video pane to stretch out the audio and video frames (if its not stretched out enough, it is difficult to sync…(you’ll see what I mean when you start fooling around with it). If it is out of sync, I just move the whole audio part right or left a tad until it lines up. Hope this helps.
Thanks Rob!
