Post your covers! (2025)

Well played, Andrea! Enjoyed that one! Out of curiousity, you wrote you had to use the Ibanez because of the tuning…was that because you’re worried about messing up the set-up of your other bass?

Thank you John. The multiscale Ibanez just copes far better with weird tunings. I can happily tune it up or down two steps and it still plays well. The Lindo isn’t so great for that, so I tend to leave that in EADG /DADG

I Thank You - ZZ Top
Enjoy!

Great playing! Both Garbage and ZZ Top sounded really good. And the sense of humor and relaxed play had me smiling while enjoying listening to you play.

And thank you for your kind words as well.

Being on camera is a non-issue in and of itself, I think the caring comes from wanting to put my best play out there compounded by the ability to record myself over and over and over . . . and over again.

Because outside of when I first started playing drums I never worried about performance. I always loved playing in front of a crowd. Whatever happened happened and the show went on.

Recording for an unknown crowd (of badass bassists no less) lends itself to some kind of perfectionism that I do have to get over.

Have a nice Friday!

I’m glad you enjoyed it John.
Great job on the Mazzy Star cover (of a cover?) It did sound a bit different from the other covers from them that you’ve done previously

The Hives - Hate To Say I Told You So

This song kicks ass and freakin’ ROCKS from the get-go! It must be one of my favourite covers, such energy!!! So much so, it deserved a flashy video and I even put on a suit, gold shirt & tie, and broke out the pink* bass!!!

Ibanez EHB1000S into the Hotone Ampero, then on into GarageBand.

*I actually recoded this cover a number of times, but with different basses. The short scale Ibanez won through, its gritty, dark tone seemed to really fit with the songs vibe. It’s also an insanely fun instrument to play!!

YESSSSSS! That rocked, Duncan! Gettin’ me amped up to start the day. Great fuzz buzz tone with the Ibanez that suited the song perfectly. Speaking of suits…looking slick. You win bass face of the week! Rocking track and very well played! Just great entertainment.

I loved everything about that. The song. Your play. The style. The video. You rocking out. Moving in for close up shots.

I watched it a couple of times. If I was unfamiliar with the band, Bassbuzz, and I just watched this I would want to know what band this was that featured their bass player in their music video.

It’s my 23rd wedding anniversary today, so I thought I’d squeeze out a cover vid before dinner…lol
