Post your covers! (2025)

When I eventually post a video I’m wearing a beard regardless of what song it is :joy:

Happy anniversary, man! I figured Abba would be fun to play, but that bassline looked to be especially so!

Sounds great @JustinAndSheba and happy anniversary!

I like how y’all can just squeeze one out and sound so good.

I struggle them out

Happy anniversary, Man - 23 years is a real milestone! Are you two going for cheesy noodles?

Nice cover too. I was thinking of doing some Abba actually but it’s tough keeping the pace and the groove

Thanks… yeah, they don’t all squeeze out so smoothly.

Radiohead - Creep bass improvisation

This cover was an exercise in approach notes and a chromatic run using all four fingers.

I’m going travelling this week, so it’s the Hofner Shortie via a Scarlett Solo into GarageBand. I double tracked the line (as in played it twice) panning slightly left and right. The video was shot in the hotel stairwell, that is actually more interesting than my rather boring room!

This is one of my favourite songs, and as such has been on my ‘to do’ list for that long, that I forget to finish it!
Great job on the improv too

Well played! Yeah, looked like a good exercise to get all fingers on the fretting hand involved. The hotel stairwell was a cool choice with that funky chandelier and those shades of blue. The only negative is that no randos returning to the hotel from a night out staggered into the shoot. That would have fit with the theme - what the hell am I doing here (in this stairwell)?!

Today it’s back to the 50s with Johnny and the Hurricanes and Red River Rock.

The bass of choice was of course the Hofner. I found the rock and roll sound was best achieved with both pickups on, with a bias towards the neck, and the Round amp SIM on the Line6. I put my pick away and got my finger out, and tried to make the sound a bit muddier by tinkering with the EQ in Audacity,

The big problem with covering older tracks like this is that the tuning was quite off (451Hz) so I tuned down a quarter step by ear and played up a fret. Also, I’m not sure, but I think the instruments were all slightly out of tune. Plus Moises was having trouble seperating out a clean bassline - so I’m kind of guessing my way through…

Nice job on the cover!

I think that it’s far more likely to have been the speed of the tape deck used in the recording studio not being correct. That happened a lot back then. Repeat after me “old analog gear”.

Ahh, you can’t go wrong playing the old stuff. That sounded great Ed. Well done.

Thank you @TheMaartian

Ah that could be it. It would have been great to hear the old bands live, unemcumbered by the shackles of 50 technology …

Damn right @JerryP  I’m going to be spending many more hours with Johnny and the Hurricanes
