Thanks, @John_E - it’s kind of my standard tone these days…
Yep, not big on covers really
Yep, that was fun to play. Probably worth mentioning though that it’s been 5 years or so since I finished B2B
Thanks, @JohnF
Now, where is JohnG when you need him!?!?
Ooooooh, thank you kindly @Ed - you just made my day! I mean… putting me in the same category as @Gio - not that I deserve to be there, but I am very, very flattered. But, really Gio has been providing fantastic feedback to me and everyone here, ever since I first played a “groove” over one of his little backing tracks (ah, those were the days)
Dare I say there was milk in my tea, without starting a whole discussion on that
While away this week, I finally got around to recording a bass cover of Shocking Blue’s Venus.
While many people know the 80s Bananarama version, the song was written by Robbie van Leeuwen of Shocking Blue, and released in 1969. The wonderful vocal is delivered by Mariska Veres. The bass line rocks!!
I’m playing the Hofner Shortie travel bass, via a Scarlett Solo into GarageBand. This bass isn’t the best set up instrument I have, especially as I remove the neck to get I it into a suitcase! As a consequence, cleanly playing this bass is a bit of a challenge…
I had to spice the video up a bit…my hotel room provided such a boring backdrop!! Oh, and that that’s a Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon on the TV, I spent 5 mins scrolling through channels trying to find some colour!!
@JerryP This is such a beautiful song, very emotional. Not a dry eye in the house! I love the bass too, shiny and dark. Well done on the cover @joergkutter You have as much business as anyone posting in here! That doesn’t absolve you from watching all of the 2025 videos though!
Well played, and thanks for joining in the fun. And you did look like you were enjoying it. @sunDOG I’m guessing this is the original of the Banananaramama hit? I love that bass riff, it’s really catchy. Great job!
So, since October I’ve done a few Linkin Park cover, and got a bit of a reputation for it. The band suited how i felt at the time, and it was a bit of a fad.
I’m hoping that Garbage isn’t jut a fad for me too, as I’m really enjoying these songs.
But, this one did jump the queue as it seems apt given that due hydrocephalus, I’ve had a headache since October. Add that to some stress at work, and I had to take a fortnight off. Now it’s looking like I might lose my job over it (long story)
Now you know ‘where it hurts’… Tell Me Where it Hurts - Garbage
But at least I’ll have more time to play new songs!
Hell yeah, @joergkutter -
My favorite bit was where you showed your true mastery of the bass… by sipping your beverage of choice during the drum break.
That’s a real pro move.
Real lovely playing, great touch, great sound - lovely all 'round.
We can be in the same category any day.
Hey @AndreaJayne , sorry to hear of the work stress and headaches. Not much to offer there save for an ear to listen. Which I’ve just applied to your latest Garbage cover - nice job!
Awesome line Duncan, love that descending part! Shocking Blue is an under appreciated band imo, myself included, I only recently found out they wrote “Love Buzz” and not Nirvana.
Back when I was doing the 50 song challenge my absolute favorite song from the set was “Alone, Together” by The Strokes. I’m not sure why it took me so long to cover another Strokes song? I love the drums in this song, its so fun to play along to.
Same here really Dan. Back then with a young family I didn’t have the spare cash for CD’s, so I’m making up for lost time, rediscovering bands from my past. And garbage is Number 1 at this moment
