Post Your Covers! (2026)

I can see it as well.

I have a Beatles cover ready to post, but uploading from a hotel is slow and painful. I’ll be back in NJ next week and upload it then.

Awesome playing, John! Welcome back to the thread! That tone sounded perfect.

Glad you’re back doing covers. You’ve been so supportive to newer members on the 50 songs challenge, so it’s great to see you back at it.

“Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres” by Rush, once again! This time, it’s the Armageddon part.

This took multiple takes to get to this level, and even this one had three errors and several very minor mistakes. This song doesn’t get any easier no matter which section you go for, and all that fretting on the 2nd and 4th frets leaves my forearm pretty sore afterward.

There is so much variation in this song and it’s very difficult to remember and play them all accurately. But that’s par for the course when it comes to Rush, especially Hemispheres. I recently watched Rick Beato’s interview with Geddy Lee (go watch it if you haven’t already, it’s worth stopping what you’re doing to give it an hour of your time) and even he said during the recording of Hemispheres, he would get really pissed off because it was so difficult to play, and that it was the hardest recording he had done up to that point, not to mention having to sing at the top of his lungs for 18 minutes straight. That made me feel a little better about my own difficulty learning and playing this song.

That down-sliding lick at 2:17 is by far my favorite part.

This is a two for one offer! Sometimes you disappear down a rabbit hole, and yesterday that rabbit hole was called, “Rock Me Baby”. I watched a whole load of cover videos a couple of days ago, one of which was this song, covered by @Mktony32

It’s a super simple 12-bar, so I covered it twice, picking up a live BB King version, plus Otis Redding’s version. They are subtly different - key and feel - so it was fun to do!

BB King - Rock Me Baby

Otis Redding - Rock Me Baby

As you can see, for both, I’m playing my crappy Hofner Shortie, a bass I take apart and shove in a suitcase.

We’re on vacation at the moment, staying in a one bedroom apartment. My daughter is sleeping in the lounge, so for my early morning bass practice sessions, I’ve been relegated to the bathroom :joy:

You’ll Be Alright Kid by Alex Warren

I have loved this song ever since I first heard it. It is dedicated to my younger self who suffered horrific abuse at a boarding school.

Well, this was my bright idea to get around the Beatles block on YouTube. Here’s a cover of Day Tripper by The Beatles performed by The Beatcats. lol

The Beatcats - Day Tripper (Bass cover)

Now that the blockade is over, this method seems irrelevant. Either way, it was fun to play!

Great job! The personal touch hits me in the feels and I think it’s your best cover yet!

Your timing has improved so much since your very first video - I hope you see that too. :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you. Yes, I can see improvements. It’s been 21 weeks now. I really do appreciate all the comments. It’s a very emotional song to be, but it’s also a nice song to play.

Great cover . Can I ask if you use a green screen? As that’s on my shopping list.

Yessir. I bought one for work stuff and used it for my first covers in FL. I liked it so much that I bought the same one for the other house.

The screen is the easy part. The lighting can be a PITA. do some research. The better the lighting the better the effect. I always struggled with it.

:100:

I have different front lights and back/side lights with some extras if needed. To simplify, the basic idea is to illuminate the front and eliminate shadows on the screen at the same time.

What a great job you did on this song. It’s so great to play songs that mean so much.

Thank you!

Hi,

Here’s a “cover from the cover”. It was originally a song by The Only Ones, which was covered by Blink 182. That’s how I got to know The Only Ones! I hope you like it!

Continuing my studies of Dave LaRue’s bass lines — one more cover!

A new challenge, especially with the tapping parts.

Thank you all for your support!
