Hello everyone. I haven’t been feeling very festive and the past few years I would try to learn Halloween themed songs and I did have one picked out but I haven’t been feeling the holiday spirit very much this year. However… it is cuffing season so I’ve been learning more chill songs instead
Hey, everyone! It has been a while since I last posted. I’ve recently been working on my pick playing despite how much I suck with them. I decided playing Interpol would be a fun way to approach it as I love Carlos D’s bass lines. Here is my cover of PDA with a couple mistakes. This one is a lot of fun to play.
Thank you! I never thought about them sounding like Modern English but can see it! I feel like their big influence is Joy Division. Carlos D lists Peter Hook and John Taylor as influences which is where you get the cool post punk + dance sound.
I’ve ran into this before…. Although I do use my BASN IEM’s which are bass boost in ear monitors when recording a bass cover or playing live through a sound system, I use my AKG K240 headset for my studio bass recordings and final audio track mixing.
Not familiar with this song, but after listening I could tell your timing appeared spot on.. For a bass cover, I would have liked to hear your mix a bit higher, however, with the amount of “B” string notes being played, maybe it would have been a bit muddy - not sure…. Then, given the genre that I’m not familiar with, hitting that “B” string may be what you’re after…. Love my 5’rs, but am very selective and limited on when I use that particular string…. Just my opinion @BumbleJazz so don’t take it personal…. Overall, I enjoyed it!!
Suck??? You nailed it! I can only wish that I could play pick style on bass like that…. You have great timing, and your feel for how the song moves is natural and shows in how you play the notes…. BZ!!
Thank you so much! Yeahhh, I just always feel a little awkward not directly feeling the strings under my fingers so string crossing is a challenge. This song makes use of every string so it was great practice for me. I firmly believe in playing for the song so I’m determined to get more comfortable with a pick.
OK. We all know i post a lot of covers and they mostly stink. I stay lo-fi because it’s not done anymore.
I’m no pro on a bass. I just play a lot. But I’m pretty proud of this one. These aren’t exactly easy pockets to hit right.
I truly think the whole thing is a living testament to the abilities of session players
Hey, you sound great here! And good song choice! Chappell Roan has some great bass lines. Also, no shame in going lo-fi in your recordings. It is a heck of a lot less of a pain/time intensive. I recorded all my early covers on here the same way before I got the audio interface. Playing a lot and having fun is key.
