Wow Paul!! Even though “Lo-Fi”, who cares, I hear some good stuff.. Obvious that you took some time working and learning with this one.. I liked that you turned the music up on this one compared to others so that I could hear how your bass notes fir into the mix.. I think we’ve all started out this same way when starting to record - it all takes time.. Looks to be a bit chilly there in Nebraska… Might need a heater come winter up there…
Maybe. It’s getting chilly. And thank you, that counts!
While neat for listening these are terrible for recording - you want a set of flat studio monitor headphones for mixing.
Well, this one was not on my to-do list, until @Barney posted his Should We Pan¿c? Highlight Reel. That leapt out at me… I can do that! Another in my Yamaha BB734A.
Great job and great mix on this one!
Really well done!
you sure can, terrific job all around @CraigS - seeing loads of improvement over time with you, keep it up!
Love this!! Great Cover Craig. Could see it on your face and hear it out your fingers that you were into this one!! Chalk another one up for “The Old Timers’s Bass Club”!!! We can do it!!
Here’s my first bass cover - Black - Wonderful Life (only from the beginning to first pre-chorus). Audio only - did not know how to attach or post here.
First cover, first attempt to record myself playing. So - far from perfect, but it’s just beginning. At least today I did not grind it - just made one take ant It is way better than lots of takes I made yesterday.
This is harder than it looks. My whole life spun into a frenzy. My beacon has been moved. I will come to know, I guess.
I kinda flub it in a couple spots. But anyone who can do the whole thing will understand. Thank you all for being kind.
Linking to the audio file in Google Drive works fine, but you can avoid a lot of access request emails by setting for anyone with the URL. I’m looking forward to hearing it.
Kudos on your first attempt at recording yourself Alex…. Nothing’s ever perfect the first time out, and the win here is the fact that you did it!!
You might wanna check out the page that @John_E has here on the forum for recording yourself - a lot of very helpful information there. Keep plugging away! Looking forward to more!
Really nice first release, Alex… congrats. I like the number and your attack, especially in the opening movement.
Yes, an over 8 minute song that isn’t for the faint of heart for sure Paul!!![]()
. Yea, some flubs, but you already know that, and it looks like this one was from a couple months ago anyway….
The band I played in a few years ago was asked to play this song at a private party, and it took us a few weeks to get it down to where we were all on the same page with it. Biggest problem with this song is not the length of the song - although it does play into the monotony of the entire song - but the timing.!.! That song has got to be played consistently in time by everyone in order for it to play out and make sense and our band struggled with that until…. We all ran “Click Tracks” through our in ear monitors… It was the only thing that worked… You can hear the “Click” in my old cover of the song from about 4 years ago here Twilight Zone ….
One thing I’ve noticed is that you play without anchoring the thumb on your plucking hand…. Have you ever tried anchoring your thumb??. I think the only time I don’t anchor my thumb is when I’m using a pick - which BTW I’m not too great at…
Thanks man! Just a but run out of stamina towards the end - that`s why for me it seems that it could be great for Josh to add some stamina-related stuff to the B2B. Cuz while starting to learn songs and making covers stamina becomes an issue.
I typically go with floating thumb muting. It kinda came to me just playing. I do anchor up when I need to dig, and I ain’t choosy about where. I’ll hook my thumb on a string and dig
Killer tone on this one…enjoyed it!
Great playing with a pick!..nice steady rhythm. Jeeez, I need to get back to practicing with a pic too once in awhile!
Yeah, nice timing on this one, dude!
Cool song…well played! The mix sounded much better on this one. CCR has some really fun tunes to play. I love playing Born on the Bayou.
Nice start, Alex! Keep 'em coming! You’ll love to save these recordings and then look back in a year so you can see your true progress. Enjoy the journey!
Nice work! It’s so cool that you’re recording and posting here on the forum. I feel like my skills started to develop rapidly once I started listening to myself. You’re on your way!
Congrats on your first recording! Keep it up.
For partial songs, they get posted in the practice fragments thread fyi.
Some timing issues throughout but some good runs in between. The distortion heard is gain related and you can sort that out as you go and learn more about recording. It’s its own rabbit hole! Keep at it!
Hmm… On my amp the Gain knob is full down… Same for compression knob
