Post Your Covers! (2026)

The Spector is an NS Pulse II. It was a gift so I’m not too sure about the price. I think it was midrange pricing.

I’m a little slower now. this is a few months old. But I always love mastering the puppies

super-mellow, @BackcountryBassist!!

Unusually mellow for you, @BumbleJazz. That B string sounds GOOD!

Sounded great, @beaurapp. Nice tone too!

Great song! My one watch point on this would be to suggest working on nailing the one on each chord change. A lot of the time you are arriving at that first beat of the bar a fraction late. The trick is to anticipate where you need to be (note / fret) and then practice getting there to hit that ‘pow’. It’s harder when you’re playing 8ths as you don’t have much time, but with practice, it’s achievable.

Well played!

Well played on your first cover, @Alex_Hevari!

Well played, @CraigS!

Trippy, maaan! Well played, @faydout!

Well played, @Professor!!

This one is more in your wheelhouse . Well played!

IMPRESSIVE!!! Very well played, @beaurapp!!

That’s got a great groove to it! Well played, @CraigS!

I’m not entirely sure, but it’s certainly faster than the original. Fun though!!

More to come, @BackcountryBassist, just not this week

Gary Numan - Our “Friends” Electric (Live Version)

For this cover, I used an alternative, live version of Gary Numan’s Our “Friends” Electric. I really like the stripped back, piano only, feel that bursts into life for that iconic riff!

I also went slightly overboard on the video. The song makes me think of the march of AI, with its as yet unknown, but likely consequential impact on society. This is a theme that has inspired many films and TV series. Which can you recognise in the video?

Incidentally, the bass comes in at about 1min 20secs.

I playing my Sterling Ray34, through my Boss Me-90B into GarageBand via a Scarlett Solo.

Great drive and tone!

I caught 2001: A Space Odyssey, Metropolis, and The Matrix but then focussed on the jam. Well done!

Thank you. Yup. I heard that, too. I intentionally did not re-record it, because for now my covers are to mark my progress, as well as let the BB folks spot aspects I missed. I am up to 9 covers so far, and I regularly watch each of them again to note what I needed to improve and whether I have.
I really appreciate meaningful improvement advice from the crowd here. The general attaboys are great to read, too.

Man, you deserve an attaboy for this alone.

I keep trying to get myself in this mindset because I know it’s the smarter thing to do at this stage of my playing, but I still end up deleting whole takes for one missed or late note. I need to let go of my vanity/OCD and just start posting.

Don’t get me wrong; so do I. On each cover I practice and record several times, usually only audio as I watch the track on Garageband, After each try I’ listen, then delete the recorded track and start again with the backing track. When I think I have it close I’ll set up the camera and OBS, (and sometimes select the right hat for the number), and go for the full cover. If I have a major flub I’ll start over, but eventually, will declare one right and post it. Often that posted one is my best effort for today.

No such thing!

That was really cool! Love the tone. And man, you are having a ball! Awesome!

I’ve posted this before, but it’s worth posting again - your approach to recording vids and the fun you’re having in them was one of the original inspirations for me to start recording my own.

Thank you!

I got to play at The Viper Room again with the original goth band I play with. We did include one cover in our set that I recommended. This is a bit of us playing “Goodbye Horses” by Q Lazzarus. The crowd got into it! Sadly I only have a partial recording at the moment.

I was playing my American Pro II P bass through a chorus pedal into a Proco Rat and into my Sansamp Bass Driver.

Off to see Phoebe Bridgers play tonight!

Today’s conversation reminded me not to make perfect the enemy of good, so I recorded three covers cold.

Here’s the first - editing the other two next.

Wait For Me - Kings of Leon

  • The t-shirt is a coincidence. I first heard this song on Friday, learned it last night, recorded it today.
  • I fret ~84% harder while the camera is on which causes all sorts of issues. The last chorus for example.
  • Original bass track removed completely

Cover #2

Yellow - Coldplay

  • I’ve trashed 4 or 5 previous recordings of this that were way better than this one.
  • Fretting hand vice grip strikes again.
  • Late to a handful of notes, including the second-last one.
  • Trashed the second chorus. Fortunately the worst of my facial expression was on the wider shot that got cut.

Cover #3

Sundown - Gordon Lightfoot

  • The first in a very long list of 70s covers that I’m working on, this is one of the first songs I remember hearing on the radio and is one my mom sang to me.

Great job on all 3 and I subscribed to your channel. :slightly_smiling_face:

Looks like you’ve taken your first step in the 50 songs challenge! You should post here and check out the other songs on the list.
