The ratchet type noise is made with an instrument that is called a Guiro. It is available in the Orchestral Kit in the Logic program.

Seems like forever since I’ve posted anything so here you go. Its written on guitar in open G tuning but I made chords as if it were in standard tuning. Come from grabbing the wrong guitar one morning to practice and going, “hey, that kinda doesn’t suck”
I really like the sound of the drums in this one. Is it some drum machine? The whole sound/mix reminds me of Cameo’s Word Up for some reason.
I can kind of see why you think that. Cameo’s hit sounds to me like a straight LinnDrum LM-2 with a bit of extra compression. Larry’s drum sound also sounds like a Linn (which I am sure it isn’t, but a lot of ROMplers sound sort of like a Linn.)
I use a dr5 or a zoom 234 or an app on my phone called loopz. Pretty sure this was the dr5, then I play with the eq, reverb, etc to keep it from sound as sterile as it does right off the machine. I only take the presets and then speed them up or slow them down. If its is ever as popular as “Word Up” i’m pretty sure I can retire.
