Post your original songs/compositions!

Have you ever seen the video where Mike Campbell talks about recording Boys of Summer on one of the first linn drum machines and it nearly failed when they took it in the studio and that amazing song almost never happened.

No! I actually didn’t know that song used a Linn. The LinnDrum is of course a major classic.

Man, he had an original Linn (pre-LM2) and an original Oberheim OB-X. Amazing instruments.

Damn he’s also looking pretty good for being 73 :open_mouth:

How are you doing ladies and gentlemen? I hope you’re all good. Here’s a little, quick chill-out track I’ve come up with today.

Well, after a binge of listening to Khruangbin in the past couple of days, I had to do something along these lines.

I moved this from the Introduce Yourself thread.

“Yes, but it is hard not to be drawn to snow drifts at times @HighlandBass @Barney and others. I’ll try to make a tangential connection to skiing, snow, music, and bass. My passion for skiing fueled composing the 12-part Snowpeggio Suite on my sixth solo album, Depth of Feel. Each part is named after snow conditions. Some parts even have a good bass sound, albeit they are played using a keyboard. I’ll copy this post and paste it over on the Post your original songs thread along with music video links and a few more details.”

My Bolsheviks of Madrid collaboration partner, Bret Hamilton, has done many music videos for my solo work including the 12-part Snowpeggio Suite.
I’ll post links to the entire suite as well as an individual link to a shorter sample with a good bass sound,
Snowpeggio Suite, Pt. 11 Mega Manked Potatoes:

The Snowpeggio Suite, Movements 1-12:

Here is a list of the parts (titles inspired by snow conditions):

  1. Bulletproof Boilerplate
  2. Continental Champagne Powder
  3. Surf Sluff
  4. Chalky Wind Buff
  5. Virgin Corduroy
  6. Dust on Crust
  7. Fluff on Scruff
  8. Pow on Ow
  9. Whipped Cream Cheese on a Toasted Bagel
  10. Creamed Corn Goodness
  11. Mega Manked Potatoes
  12. Shark Fin Sastrugi

(There is ski footage taken in three different countries, Canada, Iceland, and United States)

Some super cool spacey music there :+1: along with some cool video. I’m getting twitchy now. Due to head out to Chamonix middle of January staying out there until mid April. All this is getting me impatient!!!

Thank you!

We haven’t had much in the way of early season snow here (Lake Tahoe area) so far. How has it been in Europe? Let it snow!

I think they had a little follwed by a massive rain storm with lots of damage. They don’t usually get much in before Christmas other than the highest slopes.

Bolsheviks of Madrid is collaboration with Bret Hamilton and myself.
Corner Barber is a track from our album Shopping Mall. The cover art is by Todd Alcott.
Bret just made this video.

thanks Jerry kinda rushed through this one but I really wanted to put something out…the rotating speaker on the the bass on this gave it a sound I had been looking for. Overall I can’t say I’m unhappy with it

I didn’t play bass on these tracks, but this is my most recent release. The first song on the EP, Not My Vibe is an original song I wrote earlier this year. The bass and piano part are samples, and I sang, played the electric piano and vocoder flute parts. The second track is a cover of Joni Mitchell’s The Magdalene Laundries. All midi parts in this one, but I think I step sequenced the bass and drums.

Edit to add; even though I didn’t play bass on the released version of Not My Vibe, my other band and I will be covering it live soon and it’ll be the first song I’ve managed to sing and play bass on at the same time.

It’s so cool to be able to produce one’s own music nowadays! Well done, @crumpet!

Could you share with us how you distribute your music, i.e., what is your process to go from having a finalized track to it being available on Spotify, Tidal etc.? Is Songwhip a distribution platform? How does it work? And who made your cover art??

Thank you! Songwhip is just a sharing website where people can click on whatever service they use for streaming. Just makes it easier to share rather than separate links.

I have a Distrokid account for uploading music. It’s a subscription service with a small charge per year, and they take your track and licence it to all the music platforms.

I’m a visual artist, so I make my own cover art. The one for Not My Vibe is taken from some screen prints I made for our art collective tent at a music festival earlier this year. I edited it a little in Photoshop and added the text there. I also use Procreate on my iPad a lot to make cover art, but I have a bigger range of fonts available through Adobe, so that worked out better for me on this one. I’ve attached the full artwork that I used here (at least I think it was this one… I did eight in this series all repeating some of the same stencils), just for kicks. This is a very lo fi screen printing method: all the shapes are just paper cut stencils layered on top of one another.
